Looks Like I Need New Clothes
I told myself I would wear my maternity clothes until I could fit in my old clothes again so I wouldn't waste money on clothes I won't wear for long, but it looks as if this whole process is going to take longer than I expected.
I just want to burn my maternity clothes in the backyard at this point--I can't stand them, and I'm sick of hiking up the pants since they tend to fall down a bit. Most of my non maternity clothes that fit me are dumpy, large, unattractive things. So I'm guessing it would do me a world of good to buy a few regular articles of clothing in a size I can wear now.
What did you guys do? Wait until your old things fit again or buy in a bigger size?

I bought a few things in larger sizes. I was lucky because it was spring and summer so clothes were cheaper, but I also saved money by buying a few staples at Old Navy and Target until I got back down to my pre-pregnancy size. Don't worry. You'll get there.

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
9 months later, and I am still wearing maternity clothes. I also find that they fall down a lot and I have to hike them up. My wonderful MIL got me a gift certificate to Old Navy/Gap and I bought staple items in larger sizes, some new sweaters and jeans, and slacks. I am much happier with the new clothes instead of despairing that I don't fit into my old ones!

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
I weigh less than I did pre-preggo (not hard since I only gained 3lbs while pregnant) but I wear different sizes because my body totally changed. I am trying to get back into shape though.
Don't sweat it, it took 9 months to gain it, it may take some time coming off

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
I weigh less than I did pre-preggo also - but I am plus size, so it's still depressing even though I am wearing my old clothes. WW here I come. I want to lose weight before Elizabeth knows that I am fat
Try not to look at the size labels - buy what looks good on you and don't let the numbers get you down. Buy a few things at a time.

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
I bought all new clothes in bigger sizes and then kept buying more clothes in smaller sizes as I lost weight.

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
I felt the same way. At 4.5 months PP, I decided it was time to get new clothes. I bought a few tops and pants.
I felt so much better with myself. I actually lost a bit more weight since then. I think I started to get more incentive to look after me and taking care of me and the way I look. I felt more feminine again and felt better in my skin. Not just a mommy anymore. I just cut my hair also.

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
Buy new clothes!! I kept telling myself that I would wait until I lost a bit of weight before I bought new clothes and I'd stick it our in maternity clothes until then. One day, I just couldn't take it anymore and I bought some new clothes that fit, and I felt like a new person! You deserve some new clothes!!

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
Okay, I should hit Old Navy. They have good casual wear, which is all I need now.
I can see how this may help my body image issues--I feel so schlumpy some days. Plus wearing DHs castoff sweatpants just isn't very attractive. Comfy, buy not attractive.
Maybe I can get DH to film me walking around town in those and get a new wardrobe from What Not To Wear?
Thanks for the responses! At times I do forget that the weight doesn't just fly off and most new moms have trouble getting back down to where they were before.

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
I had to break down and buy a few staple items in a larger than pre pregnancy size. Like jeans and a few teeshirts.
I have honestly not put ANY effort in losing weight. I really need to for numerous reasons.
But DH has given me "permission" to buy a few more shirts/pants to "get me by" til I lose weight!

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
I had a hard time fitting back into my regular clothes, especially pants. I went out and bought some cheap next size up pants and jeans and some long shirts. It took until DD was 6 months when the weight began to come off more easily and by the time I went back in Sept I was back to normal, about 8 months later. I say get some stuff for now but not much. Don't worry it takes time, but you can do it.

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
I allowed myself to buy 2 pairs of jeans in a larger size. I found wearing maternity clothes very, very depressing - and once I bought the larger sizes, I felt better and looked better.

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
I bought bigger sizes...and then bigger...and then bigger...it took me complaining about myself for 6 years to do something about it.
Old things don't fit again from what I've seen. Even now as I'm down to pre-pregnancy, pre-wedding weight again, my hips seem larger. I have a skirt from YEARS ago that I'm not sure I'll ever fit into again even if I lose even more weight.

Re: Looks Like I Need New Clothes
Oh no, my hips were pretty wide pre-pregnancy! I have heard that your body changes though, and even if you get back to your old weight, you might not be the same.
