Shanti has 2 or 3 Havanese and is familiar with rescue groups and shelters. I'd tell you to FM her but I think she was leaving for NOLA today.

UPDATE:
Ok, DH and discussed this extensively. The pups the breeder sent us were beautiful, but we want to try rescues and places like north shore, bide-a-wee, and little shelter first. If we don't have any luck, we will talk about putting a deposit down w/ the breeder (who gave us a much better price than the puppy farm where we originally met the havanese pup I fell in love with).
We would prefer to rescue or adopt and give a pup their "forever home". We also are realistic and know the terms of our lease and the restrictions we have w/ pets, as well as our lifestyle and want to make sure that ANY pet we bring home is a good match w/ us and our lifestyle and living arrangement. I was raised to believe that pet ownership is a lifetime commitment and any animal we bring in is for LIFE. We are specific to this breed (or mixes there-of) because we know it would be a good fit.
I have re-newed hope at least that we can make this work. So I hope to have a fur-baby sometime within the next few months. I really hope it works out because I really miss having a dog.

YAY!!!! I wish more dog owners were as resposible and thoughtful as you I am a big believer that if you want a specific breed to adopt from a shelter, it just takes a bit of patience and time. Good luck with your search!!!!
