Looking for an educated guess/opinion regarding FET ...
We currently have 3 frosties...They are all 5 & 6 day blasts from the DD's cycle....(I was 33 at the time of retrieval-if that matters at all)
"If" we should try to conceive again-
(1) What is generally the survival rate of an embie of this nature ( succesful thaw) ? How many might make it to transfer ?
(2)
If 2 (or all 3) were to survive the thaw for some reason and our desire is for a singleton ( though of-couse we would be happy regardless), how many do you think the RE would reccomend putting back ??
Or would they thaw one at a time the first one to survive the thaw would be the one they transfer ??
I know this is all hypothetical, and the sad reality is that none could survive the thaw, but was just curious if anyone had any insight they might be willing to share ..
We are still on the fence , but I like to go into a decisoon with as much knowledge as possible..
Thank you and to all !!!!

Re: Looking for an educated guess/opinion regarding FET ...
I've done more FET's than you can count and I will say that 90% of the time they only had to thaw the number of embies they were transferring. Maybe 1 or 2 times they would lose one and have to thaw another. I think they generally do survive the thaw, unless they aren't healthy to start with.
ETA: I didn't see the other part of your question. How many did you transfer the first time? They will base what they do on the results of your prior transfers.

Re: Looking for an educated guess/opinion regarding FET ...
The only reason they would need to thaw more than you want to transfer could be due how they are stored in the straws. Say you want to transfer 2 and you have three. Potetially the best embie is in one straw, but other two are together in a straw. They would thaw all three then and only use two.

With my prior cycle that resulted in my DD, we only transferred one because they were concerned about OHSS...We originally planned on transferring 2...
They said because the quality of my DD's embie was great ( she was a hatching blast), that if I had gotten pg. w/ twins I could have run into potential trouble...
So I guess my next question would be:
Are odds really slim with transferring only one frozen embie ( as opposed to more than one ??) Or does it not matter, as long as it is in good enough shape?
I remember them telling me w/ fresh that the difference (odds wise) was only 2% by trans. more ( I was upset thinking that by transferring one, I was decreasing my chances)

I had never asked how they were stored, but another LIF'er who is a pt. at my facility said she believes they are stored individually
Wish I had asked more questions !

I think we live the same life sometimes.
I have 3 and have the exact same concerns about transferring just one. I reallllly wouldnt want to transfer just one, but 3 is scary.

Scary right ?
So now I have a question for you.... I'm sure I already know this, but it seems like forever ago ( Happy Birrthday Sadie ).....
Was Sadie a 3 or a 5 day frozen embie ? If she was a 3 day, did they have to "grow" her to a 5 day ? ( I am completely unknowledgable about FET's so forgive me if these are ridiculous questions- LOL)
How many did you transfer when you conceived her ?

If they are the same quality that can be stored in the same straw. I had two frozen separately because different from all the other embies in quality/cells and two frozen in the same straw because they were the same number of cells and quality. Just my experience.

Re: Looking for an educated guess/opinion regarding FET ...
I've had 3 FET. The first one, transferred 3- BFN, second one, transferred 3- BFP, daughter Lucy, and most recently, I transferred 4 in December and it was a BFN.
They all survived the Thaw.

I'm so sorry about your December cycle
If you don't mind me asking, were your embies frozen on day 3 or 5 ?

Thanks...they were frozen on day 3. Also, the quality weren't the greatest but not the worst. I can't remember the grading, but with Lucy they were the same grade.

For some reason I had thought that when embies are frozen on day 3, that they grow them to 5 days before transferring them , but I guess thats not the case ...The ones we have frozen were day 5 & 6, but have no idea what grade etc....
I really wished I had asked more questions, but you know how it is ( getting caught up in the whole thing, you forget to )
Thank you again for replying

Ya know.. I have no idea when they freeze them. I know that my fresh transfer was day 3...i think they were frozen that day, but I really dont know.
We transfered two frosties with Sadie and obviously got preg. with one.
I would like to put all three back when I do my next FET, but I dont think my Dr or DH will go for it, BUT I would almost rather do a frsh cycle than transfer one since it essentially took 4 to get pregnant with Sadie.

OK well here is my story... we have a bunch of 5 or 6 day embies (blasts) and I think they are all good quality. We have done 2 FET's and all survived the thaw. The first time we chose to only transfer one and that cycle was a BFN. Second cycle we transferred two and got a BFP but miscarried at 6 weeks. As far as I know they are all frozen individually and I think their thaw rate is pretty good. (I'm pretty sure we go to the same place ). Let me know if you have any other questions, my last FET was in Nov so it's all pretty fresh!

Re: Looking for an educated guess/opinion regarding FET ...
i'll try to answer as best as i can!
(1) What is generally the survival rate of an embie of this nature ( succesful thaw) ? How many might make it to transfer ?
-- we did 2 FETs... mine were also day 5 and 6. for the first FET, we thawed 3 and they all survived. for the second one, we had to thaw 5 to get the 3 to transfer.
(2)
If 2 (or all 3) were to survive the thaw for some reason and our desire is for a singleton ( though of-couse we would be happy regardless), how many do you think the RE would reccomend putting back ??
-- I'm not sure what your RE would recommend. I think it depends on your history. For our fresh IVF, we transferred 2 and it was BFN. For our first FET, we transferred 3 and it was BFN. For our second FET, we transferred 3 and became pregnant with twins, but lost one at 9 weeks.
Or would they thaw one at a time the first one to survive the thaw would be the one they transfer ??
-- We only thawed what we needed for transfer. So we went in knowing we wanted to transfer 3, so they thawed 3 and for the first all 3 survived so we transferred those. For the second, 2 didn't survive, so they thawed 2 more so that we had 3.
HTH!
