Looking for a shed
DH and I need to get a shed, but I've heard that if it is bigger than a particular size that the town will increase your taxes. Does anybody know what that size limit is? I live in Brookhaven.
TIA

Re: Looking for a shed
I think your best bet is probably to call the Town. Just ask anonymously.

Re: Looking for a shed
I live in Brookhaven and got a shed. It did not increase our property taxes because it was not a permanent structure. I would double check with them, but if you get the ones that are on cinder blocks rather than putting down a cement foundation, you're better off I believe.

Re: Looking for a shed
we have 2 sheds and when we went to find out about it 2 years ago we were told as long as it isnt a permanent structure it doesnt raise your taxes. one shed is probably 14 x 16 and the other is 16 x 20 ( big enough for 2 motorcycles and all the gear plus a space big enough to hold 3 large under bed totes side by side. ) just be sure to put it up on blocks - we had ours installed by home depot ( well the smaller one came with the house when we bought it. we put in the bigger one )

You didnt say what town you were in, but......Most towns have a limit of 10'x10'. Larger than that you will need a permit.

Re: Looking for a shed
We are in Town of Oyster Bay & were told that no bigger then 10x10 .....otherwise our taxes would go up.
Just call Brookhaven Town & they can tell you, we called anonomosly.
