Looking for a different way to say this ...
I'm working on writing something to colleagues in my industry and I'm looking for a different way to say:
"Not to dance on their graves"
I guess I mean that I don't want to celebrate someone else's failure, but the situation is MAJORLY in my favor professionally.
Any ideas?

Thanks ... I guess I meant that saying "dancing on their graves" was a little morbid and unprofessional?

I'm not sure how to phrase something like that professionally; you could use gloat, boast, vaunt, brag, tout
Or maybe you could say something about the unfortunate circumstance resulting in a positive outcome

Re: Looking for a different way to say this ...
Maybe say
"We should celebrate one another's succcesses and not our shortcomings"??
Out of context I'm not sure what else to suggest.

If you can post the sentence, it would be easier to come up with it but what you're describing is known as:

Re: Looking for a different way to say this ...
Oh gosh, I actually didn't write the sentence yet
Lets see if I can explain this without getting a warning from Ron or Kim Its ok as long as I don't say exactly what I do, right?
I have a specialty retail store. One of my major competitors closed their store 2 weeks ago, and another one is closing at the end of this week. That's HUGE for me since there aren't very many stores like mine.
I'm kinda and kinda with a bit of and wanted to share the news with others in the same business but a completely different part of the country.

I understand that so and so and such and such will no longer be in business as of ______ but I hope that I can fill your (or the market's) need for XXXXXXX.
My own preference would be not to put it any more strongly than that. You continuing in business while they will not speaks for itself.

Re: Looking for a different way to say this ...
Do you have to say anything negative at all?
Can you just say that you are the only store in town with the goods or that can offer the services?

That could be good. Maybe something like business has been going really well since we are now the only sex shop in the area.

Re: Looking for a different way to say this ...
I would not point out that they are closed. I would simply let your customers know that you are still going strong and are the only business of your type currently in their market.

I would NEVER point something like this out to a customer, that's just bad business. This is not for a marketing campaign or anything like that ... I just wanted to tell owners of other businesses like mine, businesses that I already have an existing friendship/relationship with
