Longwood school bus accident anyone have info?*update 3*

i just past a bad accident and found out it was a longwood school bus accident. they said it was real bad and as of right now no one died does anyone know any info. i looked up on the longwood site and the newsday and news12 and saw nothing. PRAYERS FOR THE CHILDREN

19 injured in schoolbus crash in Middle Island

A box truck collided with a school bus Tuesday in Middle Island, injuring 19, police said.

The truck, whose sole occupant was the driver, collided with the school bus at 5:25 p.m. at County Road 21 and Longwood Road, Suffolk police said. Seventeen Longwood School District students and a driver were on the bus.

All 19 people were taken to area hospitals with various injuries. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

The accident was just north of Middle Island Country Club and east of Cathedral Pines County Park, near Longwood High School and the headwaters of the Carmans River.

The accident caused major delays on northbound Yaphank-Middle Island Road, where numerous drivers rubbernecked and stopped to ask police officers what happened.

"Other than it's a bad accident, I can't tell you anything right now," an officer told a motorist.

Traffic in the area was further delayed by another accident just south of the scene on Main Street. Details of that crash were not immediately available.

At least eight police cars and ambulances, along with at least two fire trucks from the Yaphank Fire Department responded to the scene.

In the emergency room of Stony Brook University Medical Center last night, Michael Parker said he rushed to the crash scene after his wife received a phone call from his daughter's friend on the school bus. She said they had been in an accident and that Parker's daughter, Miasya, 12, was bleeding badly from her head.

By the time he, his wife and son, 7, arrived, all the children were already off the bus. "I thought the worst when the police officer said she was airlifted here," said Parker, 39, who was waiting in the emergency room with his family for an update on Miasya's condition.

The family was relieved when they learned that Miasya's X-rays showed no serious head injuries.

After seeing his daughter for a few minutes, Parker said she was shaken up and that she had a big gash on her neck.

Parker said that Miasya, who was taking the late bus home from basketball practice at Longwood Junior High School, rides the school bus every day.

"I will be picking her up from now on," he said.

OMG!!! My parents said that they couldnt get through over there when they were coming to my house for dinner.. Now we know what happened.

i heard that 17 kids were brought to hospitals via ambulance and 1 was airlifted to stonybrook

Wow - that is terrible!!

But the crash doesn't look that bad, I think it's the fact that kids do NOT wear seat belts on the bus

I am very glad there are no MAJOR injuries. I laugh though when the parent at the end of the article says they will drive the kid instead of taking the bus. Keeping them in a bubble will not keep them safe, especially when said bubble is just a car.

I was on this road when this happened. They detoured us off the road, and you couldn't see anything because it was past a bend in the road.

I was hoping everyone was ok.

they just updated the story about the cop who was badly injured directing traffic. prayers for the cops family too. Yesterday was just a bad day all around

Just found out from my sister that one of her students was on the bus.....

Everyone in the school was told that everyone will be fine, however. There were still two students in the hospital, but nothing major.
