Hi, I used to post years ago (2002-2005) on LIWeddings as Maribelle7777 and for a bit here on LIF (2006-2008) but job/son/life got in the way..lol..

I live upstate but not far from Westchester and I actually have cablevision as my cable provider. We put in a fax machine a few years ago for my husband's job. He was told that we *had* to get a new phone line put in as the dedicated fax line. Now, I know 2 people who did not have to do this, but neither of them have cablevision. So I don't know if cablevision was just trying to eek out more money from us or if that's really the case. Does anyone here have cablevision, have one phone line and use it for a regular phone and to send and receive faxes?

I think we can ditch the 2nd line, get a splitter for the jack where you can then put in two phone wires - one for the cordless phone and one for the fax machine. I wish the fax machine had a cordless phone with it but does not. I'll have to also look at the instructional booklet but I think that if a fax is incoming the person has to press pound or star and then it will come in as a fax?

No one else that I know that lives up around here has one line for a fax/phone (purposely, they want 2 lines) or they don't use Cablevision, or don't have a fax machine. I fgured someone here may know since Cablevision is prevalent on LI.Chat Icon
