Long long vent about life in general..

Life drives me crazy sometimes. It seems as if no one can just take the time to actually enjoy whats going on at the moment. And I feel myself slipping into this way of thinking and being so rushed into everything all of the time because its what society has done to us.

For example..

Before Halloween now, stores have Christmas stuff in them. Everything is Christmas. In the summer, its Halloween.
Thanksgiving has been forgotten about totally. The Christmas day comes and goes and thats it. Its over. No more talk about presents or traditions or carols or ANYTHING. Right the day after its, what are you doing for NYE? Then that depressing holiday comes and goes and the next thing you know its January and there are bathing suits in all of the stores and the same coat you just bought for $$$$ is now 75% off because its not the season for it anymore. It literally drives me insane. Its like we are never able to enjoy what is right in front of us.

It doesnt go for just holidays either. When we are dating someone..Ohhh when are we going to get engaged??? Then we get engaged and its all about the wedding. We are married, when is the first kid?? Then we have the first, time for the second and so on!

Some days I feel like my life is just one big day. Like one day just flows into another and nothing has any meaning or makes any sense. I remember being a kid and actually ENJOYING each and every summer day and holiday. I wonder now if it was because I was a child and this is how children see things or if its because times were different.

I feel like I cant get a grasp on anything anymore. The second I feel some sort of spirit for one thing, its over and done with and the next is pushed down my throat.

Thanks for letting me vent this out. I just feel so overwhelmed for some reason and I was interested to see if anyone felt the same?

I know exactly what you mean & its true....everything is so rushed, people can't stop & enjoy what IS.

Like you said...the holidays...the seasons...etc.

People can never live IN the moment & its sad.

we live in a "never satisifed" society that is always in a rush.....its a sad reality. but society makes us think we have to look fwd to something. i hate it too

i agree with you! everything is so rushed and it cant just flow in a nice steady pace!

I know that feeling. I can't even remember the last time I just took a moment and thought:

I AM CONTENT...

I envy people who are carefree and just enjoy every moment.

Sometimes I'm like that... but not lately.

Yes. I agree. DH and I talk about that all the time.

I mean, even with kids - we always look at when they'll do the next thing, insead of enjoying who they are right now. People do it all the time. I try hard to get out of that mode....

I agree completely.

However, I will say this - it's up to us on an individual basis to slow it down.

For example: Who says we have to keep up with the retail stores, who are driven by profit - first in, first out, bring in the next load?

You can live in your own bubble and slow it down a bit. Take some time for yourself and ignore everything that's going on out there.

It's sometimes the simple things we do in life...enjoy it...it goes by so quickly like you said...

This actually explains a lot about how I feel...I always feel like I'm running a race and not living..I actually wrote somewhere, "I want to feel like I'm living life" Ugh...you are not alone!

Do you know what...its funny this post. People always say things to me like "wow, you live in England, it must be great" or "wow, you come from New York, thats fantastic, whats its like?" and all I ever say to people is, well, its the same bloody thing everywhere. Everybody gets up, goes to work, gets through their day, fights their way home at rush hour to be with their families, and at the end of the day...we all want the best for the people that we care about. Thats what life is about...we can't forget that. But everyday...its the same. We live for the weekend, the weekend is over blah blah blah.

This state of the world is sad...but this is 21st Century living.

(this may or may not have all made sense, its 11 pm and I have been eating a lot of M&Ms)

I know exactly what you mean! This drives me insane too. Sometimes I feel everything is just going too fast for me, and I never enjoy anything. I am always worried about whats next.

I completely hear what you're saying. I feel like each day of my life I'm thinking about the next thing I have to do. I'm never quite in the moment, and it's awful. It's so hard to slow down, b/c in this day in age, everyone seems to be overextended. We all need to make extra effort to take the time to enjoy each day.

when I first started working I said to someone soon retiring, "I wish it was next Friday" (the start of our vacation.)

and she said to me, don't wish your life away.

I try to say that to myself when I feel like things are going too fast.

I used to feel that way.
Then May 22nd, 2006 happened. My life on the speedway went from high speed to just about stopped.

I can imagine how you feel and why you feel that way but take it from me...it's up to YOU to slow things down. Your friends, your family and whatever else you want to put into the important category is what is important. YOU make that category important and YOU slow it down.

I was at my internist's earlier this week (true story, one which I have shared with a few posters previous to me posting this...just want to share it's a true story and the timing is just , IMO, poetic).
Anyway, I am in the doctors office for a 15 minute appointment that ends up being close to an hour. At the end of my appointment my doctor says to me, how is your son doing? To this I answer with a loud :SIGH: he is becoming so much to answer, those terrible two's are certainly kicking in. To which my doctor answers to me "Statistics didn't think you would live to see those terrible two's so perhaps you should enjoy it a little more"
At first I was so impressed by the comment. OOh I broke the mold, then I called Darren soo upset by it as I looked as what he said as being "You should be DEAD, SHUT UP and stop complaining"
It's amazing to me. I thought I learned the lesson two years ago and it appears I still need to be reminded about how our time on earth is as precious as WE make it out to be. Your life, your importance category, YOUR PACE
Don't let retail, anything or anyone else set your pace, set your beliefs, set your timeline.

It is so true, DH and I always say the same thing, time is flying by soooo fast. I feel like the days and nights go by too fast. I often thought about maybe because I am getting older? I don't know the answer just yet, lol, but your not alone.
