Long, exhausting day so far - also question about "borderline low" placenta

DH and I had a wedding to go to last night, so we had decided in advance to take today off. We had a lot of food shopping to do since we are hosting Christmas. That was pretty much going to be our day!

I woke up and everything was fine, but when I went to the bathroom the second time, when I wiped there was a lot of bright red blood. So naturally I freaked. I woke DH up and we called the OB and went in.

Long story short, the OB said she saw lots of dried brown blood but nothing red. We had an ultrasound however that showed that my placenta is "borderline low" and that was what caused the bleed. No one seemed too concerned at all since it's still pretty early (I'm 19w1d) and I was told the placenta has plenty of time to "migrate" - that this would be a problem if I were delivering in the next week or two. She just said we can't Chat Icon for a bit and not to do any strenuous exercise.

We saw the baby (the tech told us what she *thought* the sex was, but it was a really quick look and she told us to just wait to confirm it at our Level II next Wednesday) and everything was fine, so I'm relieved.

My question to you all is - anyone have any experience with this? No one seemed too concerned, so I'm not either, but I am curious.

Thanks, if you made it through this whole thing! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Long, exhausting day so far - also question about "borderline low" placenta

I have placenta previa as well. I'm much earlier than you (9 weeks), but the doc wasn't concerned and said it could have been the cause of some bleeding I had in the 7th week. He told us no BDing either. It is apparently pretty common and the placenta should migrate upwards as pregnancy progresses.

Ohhh thanks girls so much! This is the first scary moment I've had this entire pregnancy - it's been such a breeze so far that naturally I'm pretty scared about the whole thing. Feeling much better though. Thanks for sharing! Chat Icon

I have no experience with this but it seems fairly common and I'm glad everything is ok. It is early enough to resolve itself.

BTW, I'm dying to know Chat Icon

Re: Long, exhausting day so far - also question about "borderline low" placenta

I have a low lying placenta!!

At my 20 week, it was covering the cervix...which my OB said wasn't a concern bc it would move.

Well fast forward to my 30 week checkup and now it's concerning! And I've never even bled from it..

Basically low placneta= high risk of bleeding, so take it VERY easy from now on...

My doc told me no gym, no working out at home (not even yoga poses or stretching Chat Icon ), no nookie.....
No speedwalking/running through the city, and to all in all, SLOW DOWN and be on the couch after work/on the weekends.

They're just gonna keep a watch on you now...but if you bleed more there's a possibility of being put on bed rest.

FM me (or tweet me!) because I'm going through the same thing. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: They're looking at my placenta again at 34 weeks, then 36 weeks. If it hasn't moved, they're gonna schedule me for a C section..
When the placenta is low, a natural delivery is not recommended, as it poses a danger to the baby.

Mine was previa at the ultrascreen (13 weeks). No BD, no exercise, nothing "that I don't need to do to survivie"--still not sure what that means, LOL. But I haven't bled, so am hoping it was just making a pit stop at my cervix that day! No fun, that's for sure!!
But, this early on, nothing to really worry about.

ETA: 2 days earlier it was no where near my cervix, so go figure!

Re: Long, exhausting day so far - also question about "borderline low" placenta

I had placenta previa at the 12 w ultrasound. It was still very low at the 19 week anatomy scan, so I had another u/s at 28 weeks to follow up and it had moved away enough that the doctor isn't concerned anymore.

It definitely has a lot of time to move. But OMG I would've completely freaked out same as you -- I'm so glad you guys went straight to the doc today to find out!!!!

I was never put on bed rest or pelvic rest or anything, but it is a good idea, esp if you're bleeding.

Since they don't seem too concerned, I'd just go with that... but be mindful and definitely no heavy lifting!!!

I'm sure you were just on your feet a ton last night at the wedding, so that's a big part of why it happened today.

Oh, and could you text me what they THOUGHT they saw??? I can't wait another week!!!!!!!

I don't have anything to add but just a hug for a stressful day and I agree with all the PP who said to take care and take it easy but not not stress bc it is fairly common.

that sounds scary though and I'm glad you made it through your day okay! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Long, exhausting day so far - also question about "borderline low" placenta

I did as well... my uncle who is a OBGYN overseas strongly advised me to be on bedrest after work, and no Chat Icon ... well I followed his advice strictly , and my placenta did move up and the pools of blood that were there were gone also...
Take it easy and really follow your doctors orders! Good luck and try not to make yourself crazy over it! FM me if you have any questions!

Re: Long, exhausting day so far - also question about "borderline low" placenta

I was also diagnosed with previa at 19 week appt. Same as the other said, take it easy, no sex, lifting etc.

It didnt move at all the last ultrasound and I go for another in 9 days. If it hasnt moved, it's likely going to be a c section she told me last visit.

I don't have experience with this per se, but I do have experience with stressing out over abnormalities that no one else seems to be too concerned over with my bleed, so I definitely understand, and Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I was also told no Chat Icon until it dissipates, and to take it easy, so while not for the same issue, still the same remedy, so kick back and relax!

No personal experience here. But it is very common and I believe most of the time as the baby develops and gains weight the baby moves down and the placenta moves up.

Try to take it easy. Chat Icon

Had previa with my DD that never ended up moving...Lots of bleeding episodes and modifies bedrest ( as well as pelvic rest) the entire pregnancy Chat Icon

This pregnancy, I had it again and it moved Chat Icon

Listen very carefully to the docs instructions ( no Chat Icon , or anything in that area Chat Icon , avoid lifting and also take it easy on the walking until they give you the go ahead Chat Icon )

Re: Long, exhausting day so far - also question about "borderline low" placenta

I had a low lying placenta up until 31 weeks! My OB was convinced that it would not move and the following week--it did!

I also had some spotting and they thought it could possibly be from the placenta too but like you, they weren't too worried about it.

but yes, no Chat Icon at all for me for many, many months..poor DH..LOL.

Lots of hugs for you!!! You will be fine! Chat Icon

Re: Long, exhausting day so far - also question about "borderline low" placenta

I have a low lying placenta. They were not that concerned. Apparently it's pretty common and very likely it will move up as the pregnancy progresses.

The only annoying part is I can't do any cardio exercise and can't have sex. The only thing I was cleared to do is light walking.
