Living Room AND Den
So we are starting the process of a remodel. When we are done we will have a nice size living room but I am considering knocking the wall between an existing room that we use as an office and taking some of the space at the end of the new living room to make a separate den. This would mean our new living room would be a bit smaller than originally planned, losing an office space but gaining a new Den. The den would basically back onto the new living room and I would hope for pocket doors from one to the other.
Our kids are still fairly young - 11 and 7. I anticipate when the kids get older that the separate den space might be helpful.
What do you guys think - go for the separate den space to the living room OR keep the living room larger?
Would it be noisy having a den off the living room if we have a TV in each room?
Thanks!!

Living Room AND Den
I would def want a separate living room and den. I'd keep a tv in the den, but keep the living room more formal as a sitting area.

Living Room AND Den
We have a living room and den that are separated by a wall. We have a TV in both rooms and it's fine as far as noise goes. Every once in a while, If both are on, someone in one room might ask the person in the other to lower the volume but that do ant happen often

Re: Living Room AND Den
I have a living room and den and I really love having the separate space. My den has a tv and we're in the process of furnishing our living room but it won't have a tv. We are giving it a cool/loungey vibe since we aren't "formal living room" people and want it to be a fun space. My vote is for separate rooms.

Re: Living Room AND Den
Do you have a family room?
I personally would rather have an office than a den.
We have a formal living room that is pretty much an unused room. Family room is where we hang out most of the time. Our basement has a media room and another tv so that is where the kids watch movies and play video games when we have company.

Re: Living Room AND Den
I have a living room and a den. If I could allocate the space in my living room to other rooms in my house I definitely would. We never ever use it. We are considering turning that into the adult TV room and keeping our family room as a TV room for the kids but we can't do it any time soon. I would personally prefer a larger living room that is informal and an office.

Re: Living Room AND Den
We have a "great room" which is just like a living room except it's next to the kitchen/dining rooms so it's not formal. I call it a family room but that's not the correct terminology where we live. We have an additional room that's a sitting room so it's like a small formal living room. We have a den/playroom at one end of our family room with french doors and love it. If you can, add the den.

Re: Living Room AND Den
Do the den!!!!!!!!!!!! Having a den was an absolute MUST when we bought a house!! Right now, our living room has no TV, we keep it more formal for entertaining. We live in our den though!!

Re: Living Room AND Den
Thank you all so much. Right now we have a small living room area off our kitchen. So if the kids want to watch a tV show thats it for DH and I...subject to either going to our bedroom to watch TV or watch Kids TV until kids go to bed. WE have a basement with a TV but they kids don't use it - maybe that will change when they are older. If we do a living room backing onto a Den then we would have a TV in both rooms as DH loves TV so would need a space for him to watch.
