Listing Price VS Purchase Price (Offer)

We are about a month into looking for home, in your experiences as a buyer or seller, how much below your listing price would you expect to accept and buyers how much below have your offers been accepted?

We're thinking of putting in an offer 30K below asking.

Just curious what you guys have seen/heard.

We had an offer that was $35K less than asking price. We first laughed at it but then went back to them. We ultimately agreed to I think $15K less than asking price.
We couldn't have accepted anything lower because we wanted to be able to put 20% down on the home we owe now. Now this was last year right before the market took a turn for the worse. It doesn't hurt to ask because I am sure that some seller's would rather loose a few thousand than have a foreclosure on their records.

We got our house for 24k below asking price and they accepted on the first offer.

Generally it seems that sellers list a bit high (higher than what they would sell for) because in a Buyer's Market, no one really offers full list price. Offer less, and if they can't go that low, they can always counter.

We offered 35k less than what it was listed as, and wound up at 20k lower than listing.
