Listeria

Okay ladies so here's the scoop. I never eat deli meats when pregnant because I know you're not supposed to. And the couple times I did when I was pg with DS, I microwaved them as suggested. Well I'm now 15 weeks pregnant and was feeling good two days ago (as good as I can, although still on Zofran). So I broke down and ate an Italian hero from the local reputable deli (Seaport Deli in East Setauket). It was so large that I had half for lunch on Tuesday and half for lunch yesterday. So I went to bed last night and then woke up from intense nausea and a bit of stomach cramping around 12:20 am. I lay there for minute and then realized I was definitely too sick. So I got up, ran to the bathroom and vomited out my guts. I sat down and told my husband it didn't feel like regular NVP, but rather a stomach bug or food poisoning. (But we ate at my parents' last night and they didn't have any poisoning. So it can't be that - thank God.) Anyway, I still felt sick and 15 minutes later I vomited again. After that I lay down and popped a Zofran. I fell asleep right around 1:30 and haven't vomited since. I did take another Zofran at 7:00 and no problems since. I'm so afraid of Listeria poisoning. I read that it can take a few days to a whole month to rear its ugly head. I'm sure I'm just being paranoid, right? Much more likely to be that my dinner didn't agree with me or maybe a mild stomach bug? I have to make sure I don't kiss DS today!

Sorry so long. TIA.

Probably jsut the stomach bug that is going around. IMO Listeria not common and gets thrown around on PG boards and throws panic into everyone. I ate cold cuts not heated throughout my entire pregnancy and nothing happened.

All the talk pf Listeria and seriously how many people really get it.....next to no one so I would not panic.

I would call your OB and explain what is happening. A simple blood test can provide you with comfort in knowing if you have it or not.

I would assume it's probably morning sickness rearing its ugly head, but peace of mind is always a comfort!

I'm sure you're fine. Maybe the sandwich was just too heavy, a slight stomach bug, or your MS showing up again.

Listeria is SO overblown--I think there are something like 1500 cases a year in all of the US. I would not even worry about that.

Thanks girls. I totally agree that the listeria thing is blown way out is proportion. It's just hard not to worry once you show symptoms after eating a deli sandwich lol.

There has been a really wicked and quick stomach bug going around, I know it's hit a few people and only lasts a few hours to a day, and with the zofran you took, you probably shortened.

I would say it's that stomach bug going around or your MS. If you are just throwing up I would say that it's probably MS. I know with a stomach bug (and I THINK it's the case with Listeria) I would be going from both ends (ewww sorry).

Keep taking the zofran and drink PLENTY of fluids to keep hydrated. Feel better!

Thank you girlies!!!! And yes lol I think it would be coming out both ends too and right now I'm still constipated from the Zofran!!! But I feel like if it were something serious it would find a way to come out both ends. I did have stomach cramps that felt like I was going to have diarrhea but it never came. But at 15 weeks this was the first time I was awakened by the intense nausea especially on a rather full stomach. But that coupled with the stomach cramps had me concerned. I don't have a fever or aches and from what I have been reading, you would likely have that with listeriosis. Plus I think my symptoms would be getting worse by now too, right? If anything they have calmed down.
