LIRR Passenger vent-it's been a while
1-Please don't fall asleep on me..really, this is just not tolerable
2- Please leave the jiggle bell bracelets (wear one, not 15 of them) at home. You shaking them every 2 minutes to untangle them is more than I can bear.
3- For the love of G*D please shut up. You gave your friend (and everyone else on the train) directions to your house. Great, I'll see you there for coffee and cake later. I know where you live. You are a moron!
4- The train stopped and is at the station. I am standing. Get up. Let me out or I will climb all over you.
This is all in one trip this morning.

I feel your pain... what really boggles my mind.. is when there are about 100 empty seats on the train, and no need to sit next to anyone.. yet someone ALWAYS sits next to me. WHY WHY WHY would you sit next to someone when you can have pretty much your own entire row?!

Re: LIRR Passenger vent-it's been a while
That happened to my friend once. He is a sax player and was going to a gig in the city. The train was just about empty and he had his sax on the seat next to him. Some guy came over and asked to sit in the seat next to him and then told him to move his sax. There was literally 5 people on the whole train and this guy wanted that seat.
So my friend got up and moved to another seat. What the heck!!!????

I experienced the most annoying commute last night on the subway - some guy in a suit was blasting some circa '80's metal song from his cell phone and singing along. What a weirdo. I had such a headache.

My favorie all time subway/lound music experience was many years ago back when people actually walked around with boom boxes. (I know, I'm old ). This guy gets in the subway with his giant radio hooked up to a CAR BATTERY! and is lugging it around on a luggage cart!

I'm just saying, if you're gonna blast the music, at least pick a song we can all sing along too I miss the boom box days:)

What about the opposite of this. When the train is packed and people roll their eyes at you when you kindly ask to sit in the middle of a 3 seater. I paid for my monthly ticket too and I'm not going to watch you use it as a bag holder while I stand for 40 minutes.

Re: LIRR Passenger vent-it's been a while
Here's a good story to share... but let me start by explaining that I never eat on the train. It makes me sick when people eat mcdonalds in the seat next to me because of the smell, but what am I going to do ya know? Anyway...
Over the summer I was eating strawberries out of a zip lock bag on the train. I was late for work and starving, so I broke my rule of no eating on the train We pull into Jamaica and people barrel on. Now the train was empty, so there were plenty of open seats avail. Some dude comes and plops his a$$ next to me, looks at me and says, "I'm allergic to strawberries". I looked at him like he must have been kidding me. He goes, "even the smell effects me, would you mind putting them away?" I go, "Sir, I'm sorry about your allergy, but you saw me eating them as you walked over here... there are about 20 extra seats, why did you sit here?" He goes, "I can sit wherever I want, this is America." so I go, "Yes, it is America, and I can eat whatever I want. I'm allergic to cheap cologne, but you don't hear me complaining." Then he got up, called me a b*tch and sat somewhere else. I replied with "Have a wonderful day!" and finished eating my strawberries... I still see this guy about once or twice a week... he's never sat next to me again.. I WIN..

Oh god yes, I remember when I was like 8 months pregnant, the train was packed, and there was this woman, who obviously was NOT a daily rider. She was all dolled up and sitting by herself in a three row seater, right smack dab in the middle, while the whole train was packed. There was no place to sit, so I said "excuse me". The witch rolled her eyes at me, refused to move her bags, and refused to move out of the middle, so I had to squeeze my 7 month pregnant body into a tiny space while she sat right next to me and put her makeup on the whole time and kept looking at me and giving me obnoxious looks. I almost wish I had gotten morning sickness right onto her bags!

Re: LIRR Passenger vent-it's been a while
This thread is so great. That strawberry story is the best.... good for you!
I commuted to the city for 5 years, here are my top pet peeves:
- Like someone else said, feeling like you have to "apologize" for taking the middle seat of a three-seater. You always get that dirty look as you sit down in it, because now the bi-yatch next to you has to move her multiple bags.
- Why does every male passenger have to spread their legs all the way apart, particularly if they're reading the paper? Hello, you don't have THAT much between them.
- Women kicking off their shoes and putting their stockinged or BARE feet up on the seats facing them. Disgusting!
- I rode the LIRR right up till I was a week away from my due date. All I can say is, there is nothing like a pregnant woman entering a crowded train to cause everyone to "magically" fall asleep. Seriously, everyone suddenly closes their eyes (even if they have a book or something in front of them!) because nobody wants to give the pregnant woman their seat or have to scoot over to let them in the middle seat, but they're too chicken to look you in the eye.

Re: LIRR Passenger vent-it's been a while
In response to the preggo posts....I have actually gotten up and given up my seat BEFORE some men have on the LIRR
I would never let a pregnant woman stand on the train....
Some men just have no clue and are VERY selfish!!!

Re: LIRR Passenger vent-it's been a while
I hate to say it, but older men will offer seats far more often than younger men in their 20s. They almost never do, for anyone (except maybe a cute young thing also in her 20s).
The people who roll their eyes, sigh, huff, and make a big production of moving things off the second seat they are taking up. No one gets 2 seats!
People who talk on their cell phones loud, for a long time, about very personal info. I once heard a woman talking about her yeast infection, LOUD, for almost the whole trip. Gross.
