Re: Lindenhurst
Personally, I'm not a fan of the area. I grew up in WB. We lived between Straight Path and Wellwood (closer to SP). The area has changed so much.

Re: Lindenhurst
We moved to Lindenhurst last December. I dont know where Merritt St is but I love this town. I live near the town hall... just north of Montauk Hwy. We are very happy there and plan to be there for years to come.

Re: Lindenhurst
We bought in Lindenhurst last August and love it. We are further south but did look in the area you are looking in. We really liked a house on Winchester (a few blocks from Merritt) but we didn't like that the driveway was entered via an unpaved alley in the back and the street had bumper to bumper parking on it. I'm not sure if Merrit is like that too.
I've noticed that many young couples and families are moving into Lindenhurst so I feel it's going to continue to be a great place to raise kids.
Many people say they don't like the area around Straight Path but we drove around the area and noticed so many houses with improvements being done and yards that are extremely well cared for so I really don't agree that it's not a good area.
We're in the village, west of Wellwood, between Hoffman and Montauk Hwy and there are some really reasonable houses for sale in our area, also known as Meridale Park.
Happy hunting! Feel free to FM any questions.

Re: Lindenhurst
I live near Straight Path and Wellwood, down by the Century 21 and CVS. The area around there certainly isn't as bad as people make it out to be. They hear Straight Path and start thinking of Straight Path by Wyandanch.
I looked at a map of Meritt Street; In my opinion, that would be too close to the train tracks for me, if you are east of Wellwood.
When I drive home tonight, if I remember and its not too dark (shopping after work) I'll peek down the block and let you know.

Re: Lindenhurst
I too just purchased a year ago and its a great town... I looked at the house in Windchester as well and due to the drive way and street parking we were interested - BUT the town itself is good and so are the schools....
Good Luck either way....

No problem. The parking situation doesnt seem that bad, the street didnt seem that jammed up; but I'd still be concerned about the proximity to the train tracks. Is the house east or west of Wellwood? If it was east of Wellwood, I probably wouldnt even look. If it is west of Wellwood, I'd go look... what's the worst that can happen, you don't like it?
