Levitz-Chapter 11!!
Did anyone know this? My furniture was going to be pushed another 2 months and the customer service agent told me this was the reason.
I am able to get it this week but without the mattresses. I might try and cancel those though.

isnt this like the 2nd or 3rd time they've filed bankruptcy??? i HATE levitz with a passion!
i tried to buy a bedroom set from them 2 summers ago and because of a so called restructuring my delivery got pushed back by months! when i tried to cancel the order and get my money back, they said they dont do that!  i argued with their customer service dept and managers who told me every single time i called that my refund check was in the mail. low and behold, i never got one! i had to live with a crummy credit! i hope they just close down!

That really stinks. We have been buying furniture from them since 1993 and never had a problem.

DH and I just ordered a storage ottoman on Saturday and they are delivering it on Tuesday. I wasn't aware they are/were chapter 11

Just to clarify - I am a temp at Levitz and they are in Chapter 11 right now and yes this is the 3rd time in ten years.
I understand about the fustration of not getting your furniture and the runaround you are getting.....but hoping they close down which would cause abundance of people to lose their jobs is just mean and selfish.
There are alot of people this effects much more than not getting their furniture or being stuck with a credit.
There are people who will lose their jobs and could possibly be homeless because of this this. The people here are just as upset about having to tell a customer that their furniture has to be postponed as the customer is hearing it. Unfortunetly with the refund checks we can only tell the customer what upper management is telling us to.
I'm very sorry you are upset, but please think about the way Levitz going out of business would effect all the people working there.
I'm sorry if causes drama here, but this is something that directly effects me and my family.

But they are not going out of business just yet. They are in Chapter 11. Totally different. A company can emerge from Chapter 11 and be very successful -- like K-Mart.

Court hearing on sale bid continues today
NEW YORK — At least two Top 100 companies are expected to take Levitz Furniture stores for their own chains if a liquidation bid is approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court today.
Raymour & Flanigan and Ashley Furniture “are expected to take a chunk of stores,” said Jerry Cohen, an attorney, who represents bidder Planned Furniture Promotions and certain others in the winning bid led by Hilco Merchant Resources.
He said the winning offer was $57.6 million. Others teaming on that bid are SB Capital, Tiger Capital, HRE Holdings and Kimco Realty, according to court documents.
“A lot of locations will be for going concerns, just not the Levitz name,” Cohen said.
Ashley Chairman Ron Wanek confirmed that his company is looking at Levitz West Coast stores for its Ashley Furniture HomeStores dedicated store network, but couldn’t be specific on the number saying it still had to evaluate them.
“Raymour has the East Coast,” Wanek said, adding, “We have some licensees interested in some of the stores (on the West Coast).”
Raymour President and CEO Neil Goldberg couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.
If the bid is approved in a court hearing that was continued until today, it could signal the end of the Levitz dynasty, as Cohen confirmed the winding bid was for liquidation and flipping of the leases. The sale, however, is facing a series of objections, mostly from landlords.
Cohen said the bidding negotiations in U.S. Bankruptcy Court here lasted throughout the evening and concluded at 3:45 a.m. Thursday.
Levitz filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Nov. 8 for the third time in 10 years. Its current owners — led by investment group Prentice Capital Management, which acquired the Top 100 company out of bankruptcy in 2005 — plowed some $200 million into the 76-store retailer in less than two years but were unable to turn a profit.
Levitz has been one of America’s top furniture retailers for decades and at one time was the largest U.S. furniture store company.
According to Cohen, other bidders outside the stalking horse group included retailer Raymour & Flanigan; a joint bid by Julius M. Feinblum Real Estate and Levitz minority shareholder Harbinger Capital; another joint bid by Hudson Capital and Great American Group; and a joint bid by Gordon Bros. and DJM Realty.
Hilco and Gordon Bros. are overseeing liquidation of The Bombay Company’s U.S. stores, and DJM Realty recently was hired to sell the stores.

I'm going to say this b/c I used to work at a company that they put out of business...
They screwed over so many people over the years...I'm not surprised
I gave it a year and a half, and it took a little over 2 years
I feel bad for all the employees there b/c I know how it feels
But the "execs" there dug their own grave IMO

Yes, you did and that's why I pushed for you to get your furniture and flip your deposit when you did.
THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!! I am really happy with it and it looks really nice and I have ordered the mattresses from jcpenney should be getting them soon.
