LEVITT CAPE

Went to look at a levitt cape today and it was a mess!!! Just wondering if anyone dormered out the back where the upstairs closet is and put in a bathroom.

I am looking for how much the permits are and how much something like this would be.

Any information is really appreciated.

Thanks,

-Jess

Re: LEVITT CAPE

We have a Levitt cape and fortunately it was in pretty good shape. We'll eventually dormer, so I don't have any helpful info for you, sorry. Chat Icon

but there is a company called Levitt Style, and I've seen their truck on my block doing renovations to houses. I don't know the #, but I"m sure they're in the phone book.

Re: LEVITT CAPE

Yes, when we bought our Levitt cape, there was an upstairs bathroom, which is dormed out to make a full bath. The bedrooms aren't dormered, just the bathrooms.

Frankly, I would not use Levitt Style, because that's who the previous owner used and a lot of things were done wrong. There are plenty of other reliable contractors.

We also have a extension off the side to make a dining room.

Levitt capes are great, because there is so much you can do with them.

You can see our bathroom dormer in this picture.

Re: LEVITT CAPE

If you want a full dormer in the back, it will cost about $50000 soup to nuts. If you want the whole dormer it's about $100000.

Thanks for the info on Levitt Style. Dh thinks we should use them because "they only do Levitts and will do a good job" Chat Icon

Re: LEVITT CAPE

My Aunt had one and they dormered the closet to a bathroom. Same as charon's only the bath was done.

I'm not sure of the costs being it was done over 20 years ago. Ugh...also, well, my Aunt passed in Dec. and now my Cousins are trying to put it on the market and there's no CO's for that bathChat Icon (or the garage or the patio!)Chat Icon Chat Icon (BUT...that's another story!)Chat Icon

Re: LEVITT CAPE

we have a levitt cape - we bought it as an estate sale. Ours luckily wasnt a mess but it was very plain and needed some updating.

We still have the closet in the middle upstairs, which is actually the only closet upstairs.

Maybe one day we will dormer....Maybe.

Where was the cape you looked at?

Re: LEVITT CAPE

We just bought a levitt cape - It is not dormered but we have lots and lots and lots of closet space which was its appeal b/c most levitts don't! I was told about 100000 for the dormer!

No, not for the bathroom only,$100000 will cover a full dormer, back and front, pushing the whole roof up. The partial dormer should be significantly less.

Re: LEVITT CAPE

So as I FMed you, our bathroom actually connects directly into the bedroom. It's a little hard to see in this picture, but the bathroom door is in the right corner of the picture.

Re: LEVITT CAPE

you are so lucky to have that upstairs bathroom.

I hope one day we can do a full dormer....I am getting tired of going downstairs in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom....

If we had to do it all over again, I would of bought a house with 2 bathrooms.
