?: Letter recognizing teacher
DS had a leave replacement this year and we really liked her.
I have heard that one of the best things you can do for a teacher, is write a letter to the admin acknowledging them.
If you are a teacher, do you have any tips of what we should/should not say?
Handwritten, formally typed, etc?

?: Letter recognizing teacher
I'm a teacher, and I can't really think of anything not to say if it's all positive. I would include what the teacher did to engage your child, why you think she would be an asset, and what sets her apart from other teachers. One of the most important things you can include is something about. Communication w/you as a parent. I think it's sweet of you to do this. Yes, they (letters like this) do make a difference to us.

Re: ?: Letter recognizing teacher
Thanks!
Is it appropriate to mention that she was an excellent leave replacement and we hope the school can find a FT spot for her?
I think prior she was a regular building sub.
We also got the sense when we met with her for a conference, that minimal parents were involved (she said she had only a small handful request teacher conferences).

Re: ?: Letter recognizing teacher
I'm also wondering on this, would it be appropriate to cc a principal or something?
I work in non profit and when we receive or write a letter of recognition we usually cc the supervisor but is that ok in the school setting?

Yes! Send it to as many people are possible. Best people to send it to would be the principal, superintendent, and head of personnel.

Re: ?: Letter recognizing teacher
I emailed the principal on the last day of school last year as my DD had an outstanding 2nd grade teacher. I just wrote it from the heart and mentioned the teacher's attributes and how she used her skills to get the best out of my DD and that I hoped our paths would cross again when my DS reaches that level. The principal replied and thanked me for the letter and asked my permission to share it with the teacher which I gave and then she emailed me thanking me so much...I am very pro active at thanking people or getting recognition for people on a day to day basis..ie if I am in a store and someone goes out of their way to help me or is just consistently polite and helpful I will make a point to call up and relay to this to management. We are all so negative these days and love finding fault with others that I try to negate that with positivity if I can. So long story short send the email to the principal and maybe even CC the superintendent.

You should speak from the heart, stress what she did for your child that made an impact. Also, send it to the building principal, super, and the head of personnel.

I'm a teacher. This is very nice of you. Just type up a letter saying all of the positive things about the teacher and how your child has learned so much and had a great experience. You can even mention how the teacher was with parent communication. Give a few examples of what the teacher did that was great. I would email it to the principal and the superintendent. Again very nice of you!

Re: ?: Letter recognizing teacher
I'm a teacher as well, and all the suggestions given by others were right on point. Plus I'd also add, if you can hand in the letter personally, especially to the principal and the chairperson of the department, it would be even better.
What a sweet, sweet thing do u to do!!
