Let's talk low VOC paints!!!
What paints are best? I am talking better VOC, paint coverage, etc...
I heard BM does one too but how does in compare to Mythic in term of "toxicity", paint coverage, quality.

Theirs also zero VOC's.... And they also have paperless drywall which = no mold buildup...

Re: Let's talk low VOC paints!!!
I haven't tried any of them yet, but Valspar has a low VOC paint, but when they add the colorant, that has VOC's in it, but it does smell less.
I'm not sure about BM no or low VOC paint. I'm not sure they sell it in stores yet in NY. But I believe you can order from a BM dealer.
And Home Depot has one called Fresh Aire . They don't have a lot of colors to choice from (65), but they do have some nice colors. And their paint is NO VOC with the base color or the colorant.
We will be choosing paint soon, so I need to decide too.

Re: Let's talk low VOC paints!!!
I used the Mythic Paint http://www.mythicpaint.com/ throughout my house a few months ago. Zero VOC, even with the colorant. My painter has been painting for decades, and the entire time he was using the paint, he was complimenting the coverage and usability of the paint. He even took the website info so he could look into using it for other customers (he is primarily a BM painter).
Mythic can also match any color. Free shipping as well.
It's been on the walls for a few months now, and it still looks brand-new, even with two DC in the house......
We are definitely going to be using Mythic paints when we do the kitchen and dining room.

Re: Let's talk low VOC paints!!!
About what Mythic is, too....
I checked out the MSDSs for both products (Mythic, and the BM Natura paints). Mythic has 0 hazardous components as defined by OSHA. BM has several. BM mentions that their "zero" VOC paint actually has less than 50 grams/Liter of VOCs, which is the gov't definition of "zero". Mythic has 0 VOC as defined by the mathematical term "zero".
It's still great seeing big brands make healthier products, but I'm still going to stick with Mythic. For almost the same price, I get an actual zero VOC paint.

VOC's also comes from the following.
Household products including: paints, paint strippers, and other solvents; wood preservatives; aerosol sprays; cleansers and disinfectants; moth repellents and air fresheners; stored fuels and automotive products; hobby supplies; dry-cleaned clothing.

That's why my carpet is corn-based, so it's the minimal amount of VOCs possible on the market, my bamboo flooring has no VOCs in the glue (most hardwood and bamboo floor has VOCs), the stain used on the wood in the house is all soy-based, so no VOCs. No dry-cleaning for us. Minimal to no aerosol cans.
I do have fuel stored, but it's in the shed where DC can't get near it.
It's almost impossible to eliminate ALL VOCs, but I'm doing my best to have as little as possible in the house.

Re: Let's talk low VOC paints!!!
I have painted my whole interior of my house and only used Sherwin Williams Harmony paint. I loved it. There were absolutely no fumes what so ever. I got that paint because I was PG with one kid at the time and then 2 kids. It was the healthy thing to do! It is a bit more expensive than say Home Depot brand, etc., but totally worth it. I also ended up getting a great price from my local Sherwin Williams store because I was there so much! Also, they do have sales very frequently for 25% the Harmony paint.
ETA: The price on a gallon for Harmony is normally $34.99, but they always gave it to me for $26.00.

Re: Let's talk low VOC paints!!!
We recently used Olympic Paint from Lowe's, it's low VOC. I painted our dining room and barely smelled anything. It was great bc the kids were home while I did it.

The Harmony is very low VOC paint, but it is still not totally 0. There are also hazardous chemicals in there that Mythic doesn't have. It's a matter of degrees. The big-name brand paints still have some VOCs in them, even when they claim they are "zero" VOC (the gov't lets them get away with that). I'm also not sure if the Harmony colorant has VOCs. It probably does, otherwise they would go out of their way to mention it.
With a $25 price difference between Harmony and Mythic, it takes a lot of dedication (aka $$) to go totally zero VOC....

I contacted them a while ago (Mythic) and they told me they did not have sample (like BM). Which kind of stopped me!
I remember them telling me they could match any colors though.
In reference to VOC in other products, I can't eliminate all VOC in my house but I am trying to limit them. Mostly because of DS, I am making more "informed" choices.
