Let's discuss the recent signed bill for Marijuana to be a civil infraction in CA

How do you feel about this? Can you drive and be high on pot and drive okay? - honest question.. I never smoked pot and drove because I didn't have a car in college.

Bill is outlined below:

---------
Today, California Gov. Schwarzenegger signed a bill that will make possession of an ounce or less of marijuana a civil infraction, as opposed to a misdemeanor.

Here are the key points of this bill:

-Don't carry more than an ounce!

-Law goes into effect Jan 1st 2010. Possession is still a misdemeanor until then

-If caught after Jan 1st, you'll still get $100 fine, but a court appearance won't be necessary, and it won't go on your record

-Smoking in public or around a minor will still be a misdemeanor

Looks like we're one step closer to legalization.

Those of you who are excited about this news: Celebrate with caution.

The new law doesn't go into effect until January 1st!

What do U think of this new bill?

I am NOT a marijuana smoker, but I think it should be legalized. I know some will disagree but IMO it's no worse than alcohol. I think it should be treated same as alcohol with age limits, not being allowed to do in public etc.

I'm not sure about the driving though, I never did and don't know anyone who has but something tells me that driving while high on pot is just like driving drunk, but I'm not an expert so I don't know...

This says nothing about smoking and driving, which falls under a completely different law. DUI is not the same as possessing or smoking weed. WHO in their right mind would say (out loud) that they think it's okay to smoke and drive? Chat Icon (Not saying that you did, but I can't imagine who would!)

FTR, I am all for this bill.
