length of IVF: 2nd update at bottom

How long from start to transfer does the whole ivf process take?

Update:
called my RE and he said that I would be going on BCP for 3 weeks and then 8-10 days of stimming and then the transfer. Has anyone else gone on BCP for 3 weeks?

Re: length of IVF

it really depends on your protocol and how you respond...

it can be as little as 2 weeks or as long as 2 months

Can you judge how well you respond from the injectible cycles? I respond very well on the lowest doses of injectiblbs

absolutely...you should be a short stimmer then...

I'm usually on the highest doses for 2 weeks or more

Re: length of IVF

The whole process takes about six weeks or more, depending as Lisa said on your response to the meds.
The first two to three weeks you are generally on BCP or Lupron to suppress your ovaries.

I agree...there are some that start on CD3 (no BCP or Lupron) so the whole process takes about 10-14 days.....BCPs are only for those that don't ovulate regularly, have other isuess or high FSH....Lupron on the other hand is for high responders who need to be surpressed...

Re: length of IVF

if I call do you think that the dr. would be able to tell me my protocol based on his knowledge of my injectible cycles?

I just had this discussion with my nurse since we are starting to set up our IVF cycle for January.

She told me that if I get AF when I'm due at the end of the month, then she would start me on BCP for 2 weeks, then overlap a couple of days with Lupron. I would start the other meds about Jan 23rd, with retrieval being the very end of January or beginning of February.

However, we may not start IVF until the end of Feb begninning of March as we want to take a short break and go away for a week as this has been one heck of a stressful 16 months.

I ovulate regularly on my own and was still put on BCPs and Lupron. I'm also not a high responder, 12 eggs the first time and 14 the second. So I think every doctor may have different reasons for doing different things, perhaps.

How many eggs make a good response?

Re: length of IVF: updated

I usually do 14 days of bcps, but I'm a poor responder and don't need as much supression I guess

Re: length of IVF: updated

I am very concerned, I am supposed to go away with my whole family the 16th of february - 23rd in celebration of my parents wedding anniversary. If I start the IVF protocol the very beginning of January...BCP for 3 weeks and then 8-10 days of stimming will I be done by the time of our vacation. The dr. said that i could start IVF this cycle, but DH and I feel it will be a little rushed since we haven't done any of the classes or testing necessary. I know vacation is not a priority, but I would feel bad for my parents to lose all their money.

it is possible that your retrieval will fall in that week if your start in beginning of Jan depending on your protocal most cycles are about 6 weeks give or take not every one is the same of course I think that my first cycle took longer and my second was faster and the 3rd was in between so each cycle is different as well

Re: length of IVF: 2nd update at bottom

If you can still do IVF this cycle, I would probably go for it. You can get a DVD with the injection training and the nurses will help you with any questions.

Because you don't know how you will react to the stims, it may take longer than ten days which might affect the vacation.

Besides, you may not want to be on vacation like that during your 2WW.

Re: length of IVF: 2nd update at bottom

I would do it this cycle. We were supposed to start without the IVF or injects class and it didn't really matter (I ended up getting delayed but thats another story). You'll get all the info you need from them and can always ask on here if you have any questions. Plus- think how nice it will be to get away after the IVF cycle (and hopefully celebrating a BFP!!)

My 1st and 2nd IVF cycle were about 30 days from BC to retrieval... BC 10 days, Leupron 10 days, 9 days stim on follistim/menopur, then HCG trigger on day 10...
