Lending out of town guests your car
Do you lend out of town guests, family your car if it's available to leisurely drive long distance? I'm not talking to go to local store or mall but a decent drive away?

Re: Lending out of town guests your car
I would and have.
My brother has used my car when visiting to drive to a wedding in MA.
He's the only one that's asked but if I am not using my car I don't have a problem with it.

Depending on who it is, I would.
I don't think I ever have, but the situation has just never come up.

Depends how much insurance you have.
It could be a real disaster if god forbid anything should happen.

Re: Lending out of town guests your car
depends on who the person is. a family member came home from borrowing a car that had damage to it, that was not there before the trip.

Re: Lending out of town guests your car
I don't know, I'm really not a fan. It's such an expensive item and I am so particular about my car. I wouldn't feel comfortable letting someone else drive it all around, especially for really long distances. Maybe a quick trip to the store but that's about it.

Re: Lending out of town guests your car
I would prefer not to but when ILs come to visit from FL and don't rent a car, I'm forced to. I SAH so everyone acts like I don't "need" a car.
I would not expect anyone to lend me their car for a long trip. I would drive my own, rent one, etc.

Re: Lending out of town guests your car
No because of ins reasons. If they get in an accident you will be sued. No one not on our ins drives our cars unless it's an absolute emergency.

No WAY!
One of my cousins allowed his nephew to borrow his older station car for a few months to go back and forth to school.
Tragically, nephew and his friend, died when they hit the back of a container truck on the NJ Turnpike. It was horrible. Accident was also suspicious because they hit the truck head on from the rear.
In addition to the horrible family tragedy, my cousin had to deal with a car insured to him being involved in an accident where both the driver and the passenger were killed. His wife told me that it was thousands and thousands of dollars. Neither one of their college aged children has a car because of the accident and the insurance.
BTW: I would never, ever think of asking someone.

Horrible story. I am so sorry for all involved.
I do not lend my car out because I do not trust other people to take care of it and because of insurance reasons. Stuff happens. Limit your exposure to it.

Lending out of town guests your car
No. In the past I would without hesitation but now it is not worth the risk. DH was involved in an accident two years ago and the other drive was found at fault yet the man is trying to sue for his injuries--after failing to provide documentation for nearly a year he is now trying to collect an amont that exceeds our policy--DH is freaking out--I cannot image dealing with this if someone else was driving my car.

Re: Lending out of town guests your car
Not for leisurely driving. I'm pretty sure you can rent a car for around $30 a day if you look for deals.

Re: Lending out of town guests your car
Never. For the reasons stated above. The insurance is on the car, not the driver.

How can that driver try to sue if he was found at full fault for the accident? ??
