Leaving kids to go away for a week
I accepted a job offer yesterday to work from HOME for a major corporation!!! While this is a huge win, I have to go away for a week for training. I have never left DD#2 overnight and DD#1, I have been away for for 2 nights, but that was with DH. This will be 6 nights!! I figured the first time I would be away from the kids for a long period would at least invole DH, a beach, and cocktails!
We will keep the kids routine as normal as possible without Mom being there. But my question is - do you think Skype is a bad idea. I feel like it would make it worse for the kids. DD#1 is 4 and it is going to be so hard on her. I know it will be tough for the baby (14 months), but she is so little. UGh -this is going to be SOOOOOO hard!!
Any words of advice/encouragement?

Leaving kids to go away for a week
Keep in mind it's for the greater good. One week away to then work at home is an excellent win! Stay positive. Congrats!!! A week is really nothing.dont beat yourself up over it or worry too much. Some people leave their kids for overseas and children are resilient, kwim? You'll be fine and so will the kids

Re: Leaving kids to go away for a week
My dh had to travel to China for his last job. He was away from us for a week or two each time. Ds was 4yo and dd 2yo at the time, They LOVED Skype. They did get upset one day when dh was too busy to call but other than that it was a great for them. They looked forward to seeing him every night before bed.

Re: Leaving kids to go away for a week
I am actually going away alone too next week for 5 nights and I feel so guilty! I am going to visit my sister who is going through a tough time right now. I would also love to hear some advice too!
ETA: I definitely plan to skype/facetime...I think I would go crazy if I didn't.

Re: Leaving kids to go away for a week
My 4 year old loves Skype. At 14 mths, not sure if the connection will be made but like the above posters said, it's for the greater good.
Congrats on the job!

Leaving kids to go away for a week
Congrats on the job! A week away to be able to work from home is a small sacrifice. I think it's really harder on us parents than it is for the kids.
Since they'll stick to their normal routine as possible, don't worry too much about the time away. I would definitely do Skype. Even if it's for a few minutes, the connection and hearing your voice and seeing you will be great for the kids. We went away last year for a week and we Skyped DD. It was only for a few minutes at a time, but DD loved it and would tell me what she did. It's a good way to keep connected to them and reassure them and yourself.

Leaving kids to go away for a week
My husband travels for work and my kids love Skype. Yes it can make it hard, but it can make it cool too! He normally skypes at night and reads a book to them before bed. Some mornings he will skype to eat breakfast with us lol. They like seeing him and it's easier for them then just talking on the phone.
