leaving early - what would you do?
i've been stuck in my office all week, totally alone. my boss - to my surprise - hasn't called me once. And, I haven't left early or come in late once all week. I have no work and want to leave early - I'm not talking hours early, I mean like 4:50 (to catch a 5:20 train) vs. 5:30. I was at a conference over the weekend with her so this is my 12th day working straight with no break. There's also a very, very good chance that she'll be in the air, flying home at 4:50. I don't know which flight she's on, but there are a total of three which, if she lands on time and wanted to call me, she'd miss me if I left at 4:50. Two flights lands at 5:15 and she'd be on the ground for one from 4:30-5pm (all layovers.) My boss is also a little nutty - I'm surprised she hasn't called to check that I'm actually here all week. So what would you do - leave at 4:50 or stay?
ETA: Thanks girls.
I ended up finding out her flight - she's in the air until 5:15, and that's if her flight is on time. I know I could probably leave at 2:30ish since that's when she takes off but I won't do that. I'll stick to 4:45ish.

Re: leaving early - what would you do?
If you have vm at work, you can always tell her you where on the other line with a client. It's Friday and you have worked 12 days straight...I really don't see how an hour will make that big of a difference.

Re: leaving early - what would you do?
Honestly, I would leave early. However, I have the luck where the one time I leave early my boss will pass me (with my bags) in the hallway (but I don't really have set hours so it may not be the same for me). Also what if you stepped out to use the bathroom and missed her call anyway!

I'd leave at 4:50.
If she calls you and misses you, can't you say you were in the ladies room or something?

Re: leaving early - what would you do?
I would leave a voice mail or email saying you left early. This way you are not sneaking out in case word got back to her. I am sure it would be fine if she was there to ask, right?
I don't see the reason to pretend to be somewhere else in the offce and if she hasn't called while on this trip, I doubt she'd call the second she gets off a plane.

There is nobody here - no way anything could get back to her.

Re: leaving early - what would you do?
I would just leave. If she does happen to call you could say you were in the potty or something.
If you are still iffy then just send a quick email saying you had something last minute come up and need to catch the 5:20 train so you are leaving 10 minutes early.

That's a great idea!

Is there a chance that someone else may try to reach the office and complain to her that they weren't able to get anyone on the phone?
I think I would email her to CYA.

Re: leaving early - what would you do?
It's better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. I would leave and send her a mail.
End the email by wishing her a safe flight and see you Monday.

Re: leaving early - what would you do?
I definitely wouldn't stay.
I'd either send an email or check my voicemail before 5:30 to make sure I didn't miss anything.
