leaky boobs
did anyone not have it? I'm 36 weeks, and I haven't had any leakage, and I hoping to BF.
And after birth, do I just put the baby to boob, even if I feel like I have nothing in there.. I forgot ask this question yesterday..

I didn't have any leakage before DS was born and I successfully EBF him for a year. Leakage prior to delivery has no bearing on BF whatsoever. My milk came in on day 4 after my c/s and I had an abundant supply.

I was actually going to post about this today! I don't have any leakage either and I'm just over 36 weeks but I did notice a "crust" on my nipples this morning  . I have a breast-feeding class tomorrow so I may ask about it.

If its your 1st your going to have to pump in the hospital and put your baby on the breast a lot to have your milk come in faster! I had to do that when I had my first, I also had a c-section so I was able to get my milk supply up in the hospital so I was good to go when I got home.

Your baby's sucking is what signals the colostrum (which is produced during pregnancy) to come out. And it is the separation of the placenta after delivery that triggers your milk to be produced, within the next few days.

I tend to disagree partly with this. I think it's best to hold off on pumping for at least a week or two, until breastfeeding has become well established between you and baby. I do agree though that it is important to put your baby to your breast whenever they want to in the first few weeks to help your supply (if you want to be able to have a freezer stash, etc.). It works on a supply and demand basis. So if your baby nurses every 3 hours regularly, for example, it will "train" your breasts to make milk every 3 hours. So your breasts should always make enough to meet your baby's needs. If you wanted to build up a freezer supply of milk, for giving bottles, you should pump at the same times every day (whatever you want those times to be) and then your breasts will "learn" to produce milk at those times too. Hope that makes sense!
