LBI/MONTAUK
DH and I are looking to go somewhere in August for a long weekend just to spend some time together before LO arrives, problem is we need someplace that is pet friendly. Does anyone have any recommendations? We were thinking about LBI or possibly Montauk but I dont know anything about the area.....please help

I love Montauk. I've gone almost every year since I was a kid. The beaches are beautiful, the town is cute and there are tons of great restaurants. You are also in close proximity to Amagasett and East Hampton, so you can easily take trips out there. The whole area is peaceful and lovely. You can't go wrong with a few relaxing days there.

We were going to take a day or two pre-baby trip to Saybrook Point Inn and Spa in CT. It is dog friendy. We didn't end up going since I'm a little too far along now and can barely move to enjoy it now but the reviews look good.

DH an I went there over the winter and loved it. I highly recommend it for a couple of nights away!

Re: LBI/MONTAUK
I've been to both and I prefer LBI. I haven't been there since I was a kid though so I don't know much about pricing.
ETA: But hmmm, I liked LBI better because there was more stuff to see and do. Montauk is more relaxing IMO. For your trip, I'd probably go to Montauk. Enjoy!

Where did you stay in Montauk?

Re: LBI/MONTAUK
We did this too a couple of years back, we stayed at Hither House which is a quick drive into the town. It's not ultra fancy but it's clean and it was nice to have our dog with us.
If you Google Napeague Harbor Road and take it north, at the end is a beach that is dog friendly. Just park right on the shoulder.
Also, there's a restaurant right in the center of town that has outside seating and they were cool with our dog hanging out with us while we ate (we asked first, of course).

Re: LBI/MONTAUK
I feel like Montauk is a day trip though, there's not much to see after the first day. So I'd string out major things with some relaxing downtime in between so you don't get bored.
We were just there 2 weeks ago and ate at Gosman's dock, did some shopping next door, got some fudge from Fudge N Stuff. Found out that going to the lighthouse is really pricey these days. $8 to park and then about $10 per person to actually walk up to the lighthouse.
