Re: Lazy Eye

My sister had lazy eye growing up. She wore a patch over the good eye to strengthen the bad eye.

Re: Lazy Eye

I also had this as a child and were given exercises to do to correct the problem but I never did them. Therefore I had sx, actually had to have it 3x's for it to be totally corrected. Anyhow depending on how bad it is I believe there are several diff things dr's can advise you to do. For ex: exercised which the dr would show you, or a patch. If you have any other questions feel free to ask hopefully I would be able to help. Oh and also how old is the child because I believe my ped said that under 3yrs old they do not get concerned but by 3 their eyes should be straight.

Re: Lazy Eye

I have it. It's minor and not visible to others unless they know to look for it.

I was diagnosed with it when I entered kindergarden. The pediatrician gave my Mom exercises to have me do. I had no problems in school and like I said it wasn't noticable unless you knew to look for it.

The only issue I encountered was in college when I was reading a lot I'd have problems going from line to line so I was given prism glasses for reading, that fixed the problem. Also in college if I was really drunk it became more visible to others - my friends would say when they noticed it, I was done for the night. Chat Icon

Re: Lazy Eye

ds has a slightly inwardly turning left eye. we told the ped, and he wasn't too impressed, but said that if we had even the slightest concern about it we should take him to see a specialist. so we have an appointment with a pediatric ophthalmologist in a week.

Re: Lazy Eye

I had this growing up also and was given exercises to do. I did them, and it helped tremendously, although my lazy eye still becomes lazy when I'm tired.

One was putting a patch over my good eye (on the glasses). I was about 3 or 4 when I did this, and I thought the patch was cool, so I wore it. I think I had to color with a red crayon too, though I have no idea what good that did, and some exercises using the weaker eye.
