Late filing taxes-penalty?

I had my taxes done in February, and thought they had been e-filed. I have all of the documentation printed out with the date.

I noticed I never got my state refund, so when I looked online yesterday at the status of my refund it said there was no information on file. I called the state tax department today and was told that on their end, it looks as though I haven't filed for this year.

I was told to refile my state tax returns. Since I have copies of everything I was told I could just mail those in.

I don't own anything and am expecting a return. Will I be penalized? I'm getting mixed answers-some people are telling me yes and it's a per day interest penalty off my refund and some are telling me that as long as I don't owe, I won't be penalized.

I'm planning on sending in the e-file signature paper that I have with all of the refund information and the date on it as well.

TIA

My parents typically file late. As long as you're owed a refund there's no penalty

No penalty if your owed. The penalty and interest is only if you owe and honestly in most cases like this if you call and explain they'll waive it. I feel like theyre just glad to get paid let alone the penalties and interest.

if you're getting a refund, the irs wants you to file late or to forget to file. they keep your money longer or all together.

nothing for you to worry about.
