Last day at work? Help

How far before your EDD are you starting to take off..... I was going to go until the 18th and my EDD is the 19th but I am really uncomfortable and I am thinking about making tomorrow my last day. I had a really hard time today and I don't know if I can do it. I am a NYC teacher and I have a lot of sick days saved so once I have to go back I will really only be negative about 4-5 days.


The work in Brooklyn which means I take the LIRR about 35 minutes and then walk about 4 blocks to my school. The ladies on the train told me I should take the week just in case you never know with the LIRR... also they think its dangerous for me to be commuting at that point.


What do you guys thinks?

I would make tomorrow your last day.

I have a similar commute to you and told my boss that 2 weeks before my EDD would be my last day. I wouldn't want to take my chances on Metro North so close to my due date so I wouldn't be comfortable with the LIRR especially the way they have been running this winter.

if i had your commute, i'd make tomorrow my last day. I agree with your train friends - you just never know with the LIRR.

With DS, i worked until 7/27 and my water broke on 7/29. I wasn't due til 8/12, but i was already 3-4cm and just KNEW i was going early. I have a 35 min drive to work.

I would do whatever makes you comfortable. If you are feeling uncomfortable, then I would start making plans to begin leave. If you have the days to use, then I would use them.

And you are right about the LIRR. You never know when they will or will not be operating.

if you have the time take it, your commute is so long and it must be so hard this late in ur pregnancy

as long as you have the available time to take off then it sounds like you need it! i'd definitely make tomorrow my last day if i was you

I will be in negative days ( like 4-5) but most women are when they come back.... I am just worried that if I need to take a day if the baby gets sick or something I will be even more in the negative...

NYC teacher also- I'm hoping and planning I can go all the way up until the end. I don't have days banked though and will owe a lot of days- so I want to get as many days possible with as I can.
If tomorrow ends up being your last day will they count the winter break as part of your maternity leave?

You maternity leave doesn't start until you give birth.
