Re: Laptop or Desktop
well, it really depends upon your lifestyle.
if you know a computer savy person who could do upgrades for you (replace the heat sink, graphics card...) and you don't require portability, desktop tower it is!
Personally, I live to slouch on the couch and surf while watching TV. I also bring my computer to work, and do all data analysis on it. therefore, I need a laptop. another personal thing.... I can't stand macs..... simply becuase I have to transfer data constantly to other computers, and most computers are PC's. Also, most software is designed for PC's, with poorly adapted versions of only the most popular programs available for macs.
I've noticed gateway and dell quality are really taking a nose-dive since 2003. I'm a sony vaio loyalist. 2 years later, there are no problems and no regrets.
one word of advice... don't skimp on the processor, hard drive, and graphics card.... if you have to keep to a budget, just eliminate the accessories (built in camera, fingerprint detection.... you get the idea).

Laptop- I just got a MacBook for Christmas and couldn't be happier with it. I have a MacBook from work so I knew I would be happy with it.

Re: Laptop or Desktop
Depends. I have a few of both. Laptops are great for portability, either outside of the house, or even around the house.
However, they will always be more expensive than the equivalent desktop. Everything is smaller, so it costs more. If you need super high-end, a laptop can never reach the same levels as a desktop. (I order very high-end stuff at work, so I'm very aware of what's available in that genre).
If you want expandability, the desktop is the way to go. Multiple hard drives, multiple CD/DVD drives, more than two monitors, more than 4 GB of RAM, etc, etc.
However, for the average user, using a mid-level or lower computer, I would lean towards a laptop. With a docking station, you can have your bigger monitor, full-size keyboard and mouse at your desk, but still be able to pick it up and carry it with you.

Me too. I just got a macbook about a month ago...I'm in love with this thing. Best decision I ever made. I have never used a mac and was a bit afraid of the transition, but actually, i find it so user friendly, no problems. I like a laptop b/c i'm renting a house, and i don't have alot of room. I like that I can bring it in bed with me when I'm just lounging, or on the couch. I sit upright all day at work, at home, I like to be comfy.

But you can dock it, and have a huge screen. At work, we dock our 17" laptops into two 20" monitors (we could have two 24" monitors if we wanted).
I like having both, but there are things I can do on my desktop that I can't on my laptop, and vice-versa.
Get one of each!

We have two Mac laptops and one Mac desktop, and we NEVER use our desktop...ever.
I love using a laptop because it goes wherever you go. Plus I hate using the mouse on desktops.

Re: Laptop or Desktop
Simple if you are into the basics and dont use much memory when on the computer then go laptop. If your into down loading videos and plan on having thousands of songs and pictures then go with a desktop. Especially if your into video editing your flicks. You really can do all those things with both but with desktops you have more flexibility when it comes to upgrading your equipment. Hope this helped.

Laptop. I love its portability and we have wireless internet in the house, so I can sit anywhere, access the internet, do work, and we networked my laptop to my husband's PC, so I can still access any documents that I need when I need them!

Laptop. It fits my lifestyle. In the past 4 years I have moved back and forth a few times from overseas and having a laptop is easier than having a desktop.

Re: Laptop or Desktop
We have a laptop. It was handed down to us, so its not the best quality. I have a computer at work, and don't need to carry one around with me so I am now looking to buy a desktop.
Its all a matter of preference.
Good Luck!
