lap child...kids under 2...
so we are planning a trip to florida when DS will be 2 1/2...would you pay for his flight? or claim him as under two? the flight is $200....

You have to show a birth certificate. I had to show one for DS and he was only 10 months.

really??? when i went to hawaii last year no one asked any ID for my 2 boys...i guess you never really know

I would pay for it but I have never been asked for any ID's and we travel to Florida every year.

Maybe it's just because my son is huge and looks 2 already  . It may also depend on the airline if they check - we flew Southwest just last month.

I have had them ask and also not ask. DS has flown 3x so far. The latest was when he was 15months. Even though I love to save I wished I had bought a seat for him.
It was a 2.5 hr flight and he is getting too big to sit on my lap with out hitting the seat in front of me. And I have been that person getting their seat kicked and its not fun. So thinking of the people around me I am always gettign him a seat. My DS is tiny too. Only in the 5% of height and weight.
So yes i think you should get your DC a seat.

I would just buy the ticket. We flew to Orlando in January with my 2yo and having him in his own seat is what kept me sane... I couldn't have imagined him sitting on us the whole way!

We just flew to Fl and no one asked for id's for the boys but they had a seat. (ages 3 and 4) Also the seat would be uncomfortable for them to share duirng the flight. They most likely would be at each other as well.

Pay for the seat.
If your lap child looks like they are close to 2 they are going to ask for the birth certificate - it would stink to be denied access to the flight for breaking the rules or have to buy a ticket for DS the day of for a lot more $$$.
Also - like a pp said, it's uncomfortable having them on your lap when they get to a certain size. My DS is small for his age but, after 17 months I got him his own seat.

I would get the seat. I flew with my DD who is pretty tiny for her age at 2 1/2 and I couldnt imagine her sitting on my lap either. the seats are pretty close to each other and she would have been really cranky if she had to be "restrained" like that.

We are going to FL too DD who is now 2.5. We bought her a seat. There is no way she is sitting on my lap shes 30lbs and her first time flying. I just want to make sure we all are comfortable.
Also, what if they ask for proof and then you are going to probably pay double the amount or what if there are no seats available and they won't let you on? I am a worry wort lol so better safe than sorry.
