Landscaper
I have two options:
1- blow the yard off the face of the earth. 2- Get a landscaper to fix the mess we call a yard.
Since the obvious answer is 1...I mean 2...does anyone have any recommendations?
I got a quote tonight from a friend and with tearing up trees, weeds, front and back yard and getting out a huge tree stump...sod was about 3900 and seed was about 2000. He highly recommended sod bc of the time of the year. I trust no one at this point when it comes to the house.
We have no idea if this is fair or not and was wondering if anyone had any input/suggestions/recommendations. I'm in Oceanside. TIA

Re: Landscaper
We have Bahia sod and it's not bad at all. We used to have a gardner but have decided to do the lawn and weeding ourselves. I actually enjoy the time outside we have together. He mows the lawn and I do the gardening and weeding. I love how our lawn looks and that we did it ourselves. It really makes it worth all the time.
Sod wise: we water 2 days a week, but when we first moved in we watered it everyday for 60 days. I fertilize about once a month and I use epson salt once in a while too with my flowers and grass. When their is a dry spot since Bahia takes a while to really mature and root I put down general grass seed and bahia seed. The general grass seed will sprout in 2 weeks and protects the bahia seed from damaging sun from during the day. Then when the general grass dies the bahia is actually strong and rooted.
The only negative thing about Bahia is that it is considered a weed so I cant put any type of weed killer down otherwise it'll kill the grass.

Re: Landscaper
You should see my backyard. Ugggg....We are attempting to grow grass now.
I ran into the Scott's guy at Home Depot and he said it is starting to push it as far as planting the seeds now because it is getting much warmer. He suggested waiting till September but I want grass now so I put some down two days ago and I am patiently waiting. If you do decide to put down the grass seeds I have to say 2000 sounds like a lot for that. All you need to do (if you have a large amount of property disregard) is loosen 2-3 inches of soil, use a spreader to apply seed, rake the seed in, fertalize and water. At least thats what the Scott's guy said. I'll let you know if it works.

Re: Landscaper
The only landscaper that actually showed up at our house, quoted us $2,000 too to seed!! My dh got 14 yards of topsoil, layed it down in the front and back yard, layed down seed and raked it out. We are FINALLY getting a thick lawn after about a month. The total cost was about $400!!!!! It was alot of work for him and he got a couple of helpers but it was worth it NOT to spend that amount of money!
