Ladies that have had contractions
I am 30 weeks. I have been having contractions for the past two weeks, but my cervix is staying closed. I had to have the shot on monday, because they were getting stronger.
My question is, what did your doc do for you if you were having contractions. Mine has threatened bedrest, but everyone I talked to is surprised that he is not taking it a step before, and making me stop work, before I am put on complete bedrest.
The dr I saw today said, well the FFN came back neg, so thats a good thing, most likely you wont have the baby in the next two weeks. I mean I am 30 weeks. I dont want this baby for AT LEAST another 4 weeks. I want it to grow in my belly.
Then I asked her if I should be concerned that they are getting stronger, and she said that I should be concerned when my cervix opens. I told her, yeah but I want to do everything so that it WONT open anytime soon. Shes like, yeah!
Ahhh. Just wanted to see what your docs said. Thanks for listening!

Re: Ladies that have had contractions
I had pre term contractions. Now that i look back they started around 18-19 weeks, but didn't get really painful and i had enough til 26 weeks.
At 26 weeks i was in the hospital and go the shot twice to stop the contractions, my cervix was completely closed too.
They sent me home and told me to rest and drink lots of water. Well they lasted through the weekend(i went on a friday afternoon to the hospital) and on Monday at my dr's appt since i was still having them put me on tributaline(sp) (it's technically an anti asmastic meds, but it relaxes the uterus) and part time bedrest and pelvic rest until 36.5 weeks. Honestly now that i look back i totally blame my high stress job for the pre term contractions, as soon as i went out on bedrest with the meds they disappeared and i wound up delivering my DD at 39 weeks and change.

See, I dont know why my docs arent doing that. I have been sent to the hospital 4 times by them (from their office) On Monday, they gave me the shot. I dont know why they arent being proactive....

Re: Ladies that have had contractions
I was having them last week at 33 weeks. My FFN was neg, Cervix closed and long. Turns out I had a UTI.
If they were super concerned they would put you on bedrest. Do you have some vacation you can use?

Re: Ladies that have had contractions
I have a history of preterm labor and was always put promptly on bedrest..but this was before the FFN became the norm so perhaps this has change some things..
My one word of advice is to question question question..you will be much happier once you get some answers..
I had a 2nd opinion appointment with another dr regarding my current pregnancy and although I dont fully agree with either dr it made me feel better that they both recommended the same thing..As this might not be an option being that you are so far along just bombared your dr with questions until you feel comfortable with the info. Dont worry about annoying them or anything..this is YOUR baby not theirs and you are PAYING them to do a job...

Re: Ladies that have had contractions
I went to the hospital at 30 wks for contractions and was put on bedrest for 4 days. When I went back to the dr. my cervix was closed and the contractions were not as strong so they said I can go back to work. It was probably false labor and nothing more.

At my dr's appt that monday, i broke down hysterical that the stress of my job was too much and that now i was having contractions, the doc asked me if i had disability through my job, i said yes and he wrote me a note to take me out part time so i could rest. And since i was having the contractions over the weekend still, they gave me the meds.
Honestly, i don't think they would have took me out of work unless i told them other things that were stressors in my life.
Def talk to you doc and tell him your true feelings.
