Ladies I need some help and advice...

So we took DS to the doctor for his regular visit. He's fine and healthy and everything. The doctor was asking if he is standing up. We said he is but very little, he'll do it with assistance. He sleeps with us but when i've put him in the crib to play while I straighten up the house a bit he has stood up holding on to the rails. Now the doctor says he needs more practice.

What can I do to encourage him to stand up? Doctor said to put him in the play pen more and not the walkers. He does not like them. But DH said he still likes the walker for DS.
.
I know babies his age are already cruising but mine is not even standing on his own. This morning I had him on the coffee table holding on and he was standing holding on. But I put him in that position. Then I tried to get him to move by putting an object in front him but he just stood there holding on.

I was just wondering if there is something else I can do to encourage him.

Every baby is different. My daughter was definately not cruising at 10 months. She had no interest. By 1 she was cruising and walking steadily by herself by 15 months. We rarely put her in the playpen and we never used a walker.

My son on the other hand is 9 months and pulls up all the time and is starting to cruise a little bit. We also rarely put him in the playpen and never use the walker.

Our doctor is pretty laid back and never made a big deal out of it. He was of the opinion, and I agree, they'll do these things when they are ready and not to get yourself or the baby stressed out about it.

As the other poster said, every baby is different. Your DS will do it when he is ready. My oldest son took a while for him to stand and walk. I believe he was standing by 11 months and walking by 14 months. Now with my 2nd, he was already walking by 9 months Chat Icon , like I said every baby is different.
I would put him more on his crib to play since you said that he has stood there, also the coffee table with your help...this way he will get the hang of it and before you know it he will be doing it on his own. It happens overnight, one day they are barely doing something and the next day they do everything.
Don't worry before you know it he will be climbing and running around like my DS.

See I believe in the same thing. Let them do it when they are ready. It's what happened with the crawling. One day he wasn't crawling and the next day he was.

That's funny cuz the doctor asked the same thing. I don't hold him a lot when we are home. But when we are at my parents (they live next door) my dad is always picking him up and then he sits down on the couch with him. I see DS gets restless. He doesn't want to sit on the couch and I don't blame him and I always tell my dad to just put him on the floor and let him crawl. At home I put him on the floor and let him crawl around. We live in a small apartment so I am always around to keep an eye on him.

Since my parents have a nice sized basement all of DS's stuff is there like the exersaucer, the walker and his play pen. But my dad always picks him. He means well but it's too much.

I think you need to bring his exersaucer and playpen and all that stuff to your house, so he can use it all day.
I think that will give him the practice that he needs

Every baby is different. I don't see any adults crawling. Eventually they all get it. As long as you feel he gets enough opportunities to explore, he will be ok.

I bring down to my mom's house everyday. I bring him down in the afternoons and in the evenings.

Re: Ladies I need some help and advice...

I know what youre saying about know- it-alls who try to tell you the "correct" way to do things-he's your child and you know whats best.

But I wouldnt get annoyed at it-

Maybe its the way your S-I-Ls say it,

but I think theyre probably trying to be helpful-being that they know your a new mom.
I used to have family who told me how to do things-but I was open to the advice & really would appreciate it- bc the whole "mom thing" was new to me, so any advice from BTDT moms was welcome.

I now do the same thing to my cousins who are new moms-but we all know where we are coming from-and there's no hard feelings.

As for your DH, I dont think he is doing anything wrong.
Perhaps you have issues w/your sils being that you are taking the advice & your DH visiting her kids so personally?
would you get as mad if it were your mom or sister?
I wouldnt make a n issue out of it unless they are being totally rude...bc unforts whether you love them or hatem them-theyre in your life for the long run...so id prob try to just blow it off to keep peace! Chat Icon

Exactly! I can't force him to do something he can't do. I can help him and encourage him a little bit but I can't just make him do it...
