Lactose intollerence and switching to milk
I knew my DD was lactose intollerent b/c she had loose poops on similac advance since birth. (no pain, just poops) Ped said she was gaining weight so loose poops were fine but I switched her anyway to similac sensitive and she improved.
They have both been eating cheese and yogurt and didn't have much of an issue. I just started giving 1 oz of whole milk in their bigger bottles and a drop in their 2 oz bottles and DD1 has very loose poops again. (sorry tmi ). Would you give it time or just switch to whole lactaid milk now? I figure I'll try that before almond or coconut or anything.
Also, if your child did have lactose sensitivity, did they outgrow it eventually. I know each kid is different but just wondering if this is something that is commonly outgrown.

Lactose intollerence and switching to milk
DS 1 had lactose sensitivity. He was on Similac Sensitive and when we started switching him to whole milk, he'd vomit and he would wake up at night in pain as we increased the amounts so we switched to Lactaid.
We started him on regular milk (2%) again this summer at 3 1/2 (we waited so long because he was finally sleeping well and we didn't want to change anything) and he's doing fine.
He had no issue with cheese but, he did have issues with yogurt as well.

Re: Lactose intollerence and switching to milk
I don't know if my DS had a lactose sensitivity but he threw up when I tried transitioning him to whole milk, but was fine on yogurt. We found out from his 1 year bloodwork he has a milk allergy, and took him to an allergist who advised me to try soy. So far he has been doing well on the soy.

She didn't throw up but she did wake up last night at 3:30-4:30 then for the day at 5:30 crying. I'm wondering if it could be it eventhough she drank at 7:30/8. she didn't poop then though. It was later. I'm going to try the lactaid tomorrow.

I would try coconut or almond before lactaid since both are lactose and casein free. Lactaid isn't organic, not sure if that is important to you.
Almond milk is excellent from a nutrional standpoint, it has less protein that dairy milk so you'd have to make up for it with other foods.

Although it's not organic - it comes from cows not given growth hormones - but, it is ultra pasteurized.

Re: Lactose intollerence and switching to milk
My 2 sons had major issues by 2 oz. I am talking screaming pain. I stopped and went back to formula and fine. Eventually went to soy milk and all ok. But my kids had major issues with yogurt and cheese as babies - cranky, vomit, etc.
They are 8 and 6 and still have issues with lactose. But luckily not major...can have a little cheese and ice cream here and here. My kids always had loose poops when I changed anything in their diet as babies. If it were just loose poops, I'd keep going and watch for pain and vomiting before you make your decision but that is just my opinion. I found with my kids their stomach's just needed to adjust. My middle son had loose poops even on similac sensitive but was never bothered him so I kep thim on it. Dr said loose poop is fine...
