Lactating Early?

Last night, when i went to take a shower, i had taken my bra off and i noticed some crusty stuff on my nipps, TMI, sorry. I had noticed this same thing happening for the past week or so but didn't think much of it.

Last night, i wipe the crusties off and this milky/clear/liquidy substance started flowing out of them! Chat Icon

I was like! so i called DH and i showed him and he was like, really? is this supposed to happen this early? I have no idea...has this happened to anyone else?

After my shower i sat down and watched some TV and my other nipple started killing me, i looked down it was leaking the same stuff. Eventually it stopped and it hasn't happened again since... I guess we'll see what happens tonight..

Has anyone else had this?

edited to add that I am 21w3d

Totally normal! Your body starts to gear up to feed your baby in the 2nd tri. Some people leak, others don't. Just rest assured that BFing should work for your LO. Chat Icon

It happened to me, and I now have had no problem making enough milk for my DD.

Funny, with earlier pregnancies this never happened to me. With my last one, I swear, my DH and I were JUST TALKING about BFing and it caused my boobs to leak and all of the sudden there were wet spots on my shirt!

so it's a sign that bf'ing will be successful?

It can be. Although, if it doesn't happen, it does not mean you won't be successful. I never leaked and I have been ebf for 11 months (and I have a large supply).

Lactating Early?

Leaky nipples in pregnancy have nothing to do with BFing. It does not indicate you will or will not be successful. Most success of BFing has to do with a correct latch and putting the baby to the breast enough to properly establish milk supply.
My BIL wife is a LC and discusses this in her class.

It happened to me too at like 21 weeks. It actually has stopped for a few weeks. It's normal.
