A small aircraft crashed into a high-rise condominium building on Manhattan's Upper East Side, police said Wednesday. There was no immediate word on any deaths or injuries.

CNN reported that La Guardia airport in New York City had closed shortly after the accident, which occurred on East 72nd Street. Firefighters said the aircraft was a helicopter, but police called it a "multi-engine small plane."

Several apartments were seen on fire in the building, which was struck on the 20th floor of the 50-story high-rise.

Officials said terrorism was not suspected, and some observers pointed to high winds and foggy conditions as possible contributors to the crash.
