Knitting Lovers -- Yarn Shops

FYI - Some great yarn stores I heard about.

Two brand new boutique yarn shops opened recently, offering knitters and crocheters (aspiring or experienced) a selection of specialty yarns and project supplies in modern colors and textures:

Infinite Yarns
275 Main Street, Farmingdale
Infiniteyarns.com

Owner Anne Schneck stocks her tastfully decorated store with a selection of designer yarns by Debbie Bliss, Madile and Knitting Fever, among other brands. Mohair, merino wool, silk blends...the textures go on and on. A well-lit work area in the back will be the setting for knitting and crocheting classes, which are forming now.

Village Knitter
Fire Island Avenue, Babylon

This new yarn shop in Babylon Village comes from Karen Klein, the former owner of KnitWorks in Amityville. It's a small space with a colorful variety of yarns tucked into white cubbies along the wall. Knitting classes-- some focused on unique projects like felted clogs, bags or bow-tie scarves- are held several nights a month.

Re: Knitting Lovers -- Yarn Shops

Thank you so much for posting!

I used to knit a long time ago and decided to go back into it.

I was just wondering where the knitting stores were.

I have visted both the Village Knitter and Infinite Yarns. I liked them both! I liked that the Village Knitter had more sock yarn as that is what I was after.

I love both places! You just have to know going in, that at yarn shops like that, the yarn is easily $7+ a skein, so projects get expensive really fast!!! Infinite yarns had the most gorgeous children's sweater on display, but at $11 a skein, I could buy my niece like 3 or 4 sweaters instead for what it would cost to make 1.

Re: Knitting Lovers -- Yarn Shops

I love Wild and Wooly Wools in Commack - its right before Ruby Tuesday's on Jericho Tpke (heading east). Its a little house that is close to the road and you could totally miss it (its next to a tobacco shope). If you get to Commack Road, you went too far. Shoshanna is the owner and she is awesome. She'll answer any question that you have about your project and her yarn selection is great. She has pretty good sales and carries really hard to find yarn (read $$$) but its a cool place none of the less.
