Kitchen Help - what color accessories would you do? (with pic)
This is a picture of the kitchen in our new apartment, before we moved in.
The cabinets are a dark wood, and the countertop is black granite.
The granite is close to this color. I don't know exactly since its an apartment so the granite was picked by our landlord.
This is the closest I could find to the coloring of the cabinets:
I'm at a complete loss as to what color accessories to do ...
We need dish towels, oven mitts, a rug for in front of the sink, and curtains too ... but we haven't bought anything because we don't know where to start with color, etc!
For the curtains we like the style that has a short valance and then about half way high has the short curtains (so there is privacy but still allows light to be let in). We're pretty simple in our tastes, definitely not frilly the kind. 
Any ideas?

I just wanted to let you know that the curtains you want are called "tiers" - so that should be helpful in your search.

Also if you're in the area - Curtain Store in Massapequa has a big selection of tiers...
A friend of mine has the same color cabinets and close in color to the granite. He painted his walls like a sage. It looks good.

I don't think we're going to paint the kitchen, since its an apartment. We'd be too afraid of getting paint on the cabinets ... and my luck, we'd have splatters all over the place

It looks like the colors might be black and brown???

I have very similar colored cabinets and black galaxy granite.
Our appliances are black.
The paint on the walls is a pumpkin/terracotta.
I only put curtains up last week... after living here for 3 1/2 years but we have no one behind us. They are a red, tan and pumpkin colored striped tie up curtain.
My dishtowels are a pumpkin color (old, from my shower ) and I have coordinating placemats.
I'll try to find pics.

Where did you find the curtains?
If I was planning the kitchen I probably would have done black or stainless appliances. But as tenants we have to work around the white fridge & 1/2 and 1/2 stove. Oh well ...

Love the light blue idea. That is what I have in my kitchen with beige or burnt orange towels. Most of my stuff is slate blue.
I like the light indigo curtains (from JCP) with the towels you picked.
Also check out Marlburn Curtains (sp) in Carle Place & I think they are in Huntington also on Rt. 110. They have lots to choice from for tiered curtains.

OK. I was able to take pics this morning and upload them in between chores.
Even though I cleaned up don't look too closely two 2 year old's eat at that table several times a day
Placemats are from BBB circa 04 or 05
Curtains are Target. I wish they made them in drapes for my sliding glass door. The kitchen faces east and really heats up during the summer so I wanted to cover my windows as much as possible.
The place mats don't match exactly but my eating area is a distance from the new curtains. I have matching chair covers. I'm in the market to update the place mats and chair covers to coordinate with the curtains. Image Attachment(s):
