Kitchen granite countertop from Cancos Tile
Our cabinets are ordered and, naturally, we went way over budget. Now it's time to pick the granite for the countertops and the tiles for the backsplash. Cancos came in with an estimate about half the price of our kitchen guy. Has anyone gotten their granite countertops and backsplash installed by Cancos Tile? How satisfied were you with the job?

Re: Kitchen granite countertop from Cancos Tile
Sorry to hear about over budget. I think I went there too ... ugh. As for Cancos, I don't know anyone that got them installed but my sister bought the material from them to have someone install. They were not so hot with their return policy. You could only get store credit that had an expiration date on it. I would think getting it down by them would be better. Seeing they would only supply what is actually needed for the job. Check BBB and see if there are any complaints. You can also ask them for referrals. HTH

I would also suggest going to a yard directly...
Most granites will cost somewhere between $60-75 /sq ft.

We have been to a few yards but they all asked who sent us. We ended up giving the name of our cabinet maker in order to get in. I would love some names of yards that would let us in on our own. And then we would need someone to template it and cut the stone. Did the people at the granite yard recommend someone for that? I would love to hear how that works.
Home Depot is another good suggestion. I didn't look for granite there. thanks for your suggestions.

any granite place we went to said they would do the template and install the sink...(just not plumbing). The also cut the hole for the faucet.
We got ours from GT marble in Islandia. Very nice people to work with.

Re: Kitchen granite countertop from Cancos Tile
Thanks. We will try Alcamo in Commack. Our kitchen guy sent us to GT Marble and they were very nice but they said the kitchen guy would give us the price quote, not them. Obviously, my guy is adding something to their price. 42 square feet is coming out to $5,000, which is about $119 a sq. ft. Cancos quoted up $78 a sq. ft. but they don't have the color granite we like. Any more places to check out?
