My son is almost 4.5 and is just beginning to learn. I usually let him wipe himself first and then I'll wipe him once more after to make sure he got it all. He is pretty good with it. I imagine in s few more months, he'll have it mastered.

It depends. At 6, my daughter knows how to do it but arms are still not long enough to clean properly so I clean her up good when she gets home from school.

We showed DS how to do it the right away at about 4.5, and we told him when he turned 5 he had to do it on his own. He does just fine 99% of the time, but there are times where I do need to help (he will be 6 in Sept).

DD is 4, and still needs help most of the time, but she can manage on her own if I am not around.

My kids all started shortly after potty training. So they were all two. I can't even remember the last time I wiped DS and he just turned 3 in March. He has been potty trained for over a year.

She had to at 3. Not always the best and even at 5 I need to remind her to do it well, but at 3 pre k required she be potty trained and no one is allowed in the bathroom alone with the kids.

DS is 3.5 and we still help him. At school he does it himself because they are not allowed to help him.

For me, I don't like the idea of not helping at this age, he does not do a good enough job getting everything and making sure to wash his hands good.
