Kids + banks
Want to take my older kid to a bank to open his very own account and really be part of the experience (and to learn valuable money savings philosophies). Not just an account we manage and he doesn't see until way later.
I was looking online but figured I would ask here. I would like a bank where you can do coin counting (I do TD but Are there others?)
The only thing is - I can't spend a lot to open the account. That's the only thing... Are there any you can recommend where you don't need a lot to open an account? Would like a bank that's not based online - want my child to really get the full experience.
Thanks!

Bethpage has free coin counting and 3% apr up to the first $1k for young savers i think you only need $5 to start, that's what it is for an adult account.

I think teachers federal credit union has what your looking for and I'm pretty sure you can open an account with $1.

Just stick with TD Bank if you're there anyway. They have a kids account program. DS has an account there with very little money. I think they gave him $10 to start, and whatever change we deposited that day.

Thanks! I always forget about The credit unions. I'll look into those, too.

I have a youh account at bethpage. By coin counting do you mean those machines you dump coins into and it sorts for you? If so the one I go to has one.

Like td has one where it will count all your spare change and print a ticket so you can bring it to teller.
I looked into bethpage and they seemed to be good - plus there's one right near me. Going to stop in there this weekend, I think.
Thanks !
