Does everyone by their kids new backpacks every school year? I feel like thy start getting pricey with the UA and Nike ones. But I like a fresh new backpack and my husband says use the old! Just trying to gauge.

Dd used the same cheap character backpack for two years of preschool and it held up but shows some wear in a few spots so I got her a new one for kindergarten. Kohls had them half off so between a coupon and kohl's cash I spent 6 and change on a new one yesterday.

Re: Kids backpacks
I bought DD a character backpack for Kindergarten this past year. It held up for the year but cannot be used again.
Today I bought her a PB Backback, Lunchbag and Thermos - all are on sale right now and have free shipping. I also had a 20% off promo code.
I was going to buy it last year but wanted to see how responsible she was with her stuff in kindergarten before spending the money on PB stuff.
I have been told by several people that they hold up really well and can be washed too.

Re: Kids backpacks
Nope. We purchased a PB backpack and lunchbox when DS started Kindergarten. He's now going into 3rd and he'll be using the same ones.
They hold up extremely well. I wash them throughout the year right in the washing machine, hang to dry.
He also uses them ALL the time, including the summer for camp or when we go away.

Re: Kids backpacks
Though I refuse to buy or even think about back to school in JULY, , I will say that in K she had a backpack that didn't hold up past that year. So we bought a new one for first grade, same deal, character type from Target and it seems to be fine. She just told me the other day she wants to use it again for 2nd so I'm fine with that.
I don't like to spend a lot on the ones that hold up better because I know she gets bored of stuff and will probably want something new within 1-2 years

Nope. DD is going to 5th grade and has used two back packs. The first one was an LL Bean which is still going strong and then a bigger one from Lands End which is also still going strong.

I bought a PBK ones and DD used that for two years of pre school. She will be using it for K as well. It has held up great! I may spring for a new one in a couple of years or if/when she asks for a new one.

My ds has had the same LL Bean backpack since 1st grade, and he is going into 6th! It has held up unbelievably well. He is getting a new one this year, but only because he needs something bigger.

Re: Kids backpacks
My kids have used the same LL bean backpacks for years. We are on year six and four for using the deluxe backpack. Dark colors hold up better, but they look fine and work great. We don't use them for camp. I have a separate camp backpack that has been used the same length of times and they hold up great too. They were they target embark backpacks. I've been impressed by both of them.

I bought character ones for my son in kindergarten and first grade, but the one in first grade didn't make it through the year. I purchased a Land's End one for him which he used from 1st through 4th grade until the zipper ripped. Land's End gave me a credit for it since they are lifetime guaranteed, I think. I replaced it with another Land's End one and it will be his third year using it. I toss it in the washer and it looks new!

PB bookbags hold up really well. Growing up my mom bought us a new backpack every year (nothing expensive) but the point was to get us excited for going back to school.. it was a nice tradition.

I usually do, but my son's bp from last year is still in excellent shape, so I'm going to have him use it again this year.

Re: Kids backpacks
For K and 1st grade we did the Toys R Us character backpacks, and those barely made it the year. I bought my son an Under Armour backpac for 2nd grade on Amazon Prime day for only 14.99 so he will be using that this year!

I bought DD a Jansport in second grade and she will use it for fourth grade. I bought DS an Adidas backpack from Marshall's at a good price and he will use it again for second grade.
