Keurig owners
We just got the Platinum one as a gift. So far I like it. Dh is not happy. We've been reading all about the BPA plastic in the k cups but it has a regular filter where you can use your own ground coffee too.
Not sure if we will keep it. Just asking for some opinions. Pros/cons?
Any downfall for giving up my regular coffee pot? I guess I could keep it around when I have guests and need to make a pot but honestly, I end up making two pots of coffee when I have guests (not very often) for coffee.
I also own a perculator (somewhere in my basement) so I could use that for big shindigs.
Thanks for your opinions.
eta: also the carbon footprint goes up using the k cups and we are already bottled water users. Not sure how I feel about polluting the earth even more than I do now.
It's a simple coffee maker! Am I overthinking this?

yes
double yes
My Dh isnt a big coffee drinker so I love my machine for me! I make myself a cup of coffee whenever I want and there is so little clean up.
I have 3 perk pots, in different sizes that I use when we have guests over, I never use my Keurig....it would take too long,
I did purchase the plastic cup that you can put your own grinds in and it works great!

Re: Keurig owners
While I love the keurig, we are a coffee pot household. I would have probably returned it if we got it.
And yes, you're over thinking it. It's very easy to make 2 servings of coffee in the regular pot!

Re: Keurig owners
DH doesn't drink coffee, so for me it's perfect. But I keep a 12-cup pot in the basement for when we have company.

Re: Keurig owners
The Keurig is good because we don't drink a lot of coffee or tea during the week. I'll have a cup a day that's it. But on the weekends we drink constantly so we use the pot on weekends and when we have company.

ah good to know.
I find that even with my own beans the filter is small so I can't get the concentration I like.
This thing may go back. it's supposed to be convenient.

Re: Keurig owners
You can buy tops on Ebay for the KCups if you would like to reused them. You can buy the my Kcup if you want to use your own coffee.
I loved it when I first got it and then I tasted my sis's Tassimo and sold my Keurig b/c the coffee wasn't strong enough for me.
There is def. a company that sells like a plastic top on ebay. Can't remember what it's called.

i love my keurig. DH does not drink coffee so its perfect for me. The only thing is buying all the k cups could get pricey at times. I do have a regular coffee maker though for when company comes over

There are folks that say the plastic has BPA and then there are folks that say there's no BPA. It's thin plastic so who knows.
Heated at high temps all plastic is bad I think.

I just checked the coffee I exclusively drink and the manufacturer's (Green Mountain) site says they are BPA Free! Yay!
Their site also states: Although some parts of the Keurig Brewers do contain BPA, these do not come in contact with the water or grinds used to brew fresh coffee. Neither the cold water reservoirs nor the internal water pipeline contains BPA. For more information regarding the FDA’s pronouncement about BPA, visit: http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/PublicHealthFocus/default.htm.
