Kennel Cough...please help!
Hi all! I had posted awhile back that we were adopting a chihuahua. Well, we finally found one and I brought him home Wednesday night! He has been hacking and coughing and I took him to our vet today to have him checked out. They think he does have kennel cough and gave me antibiotics and told me to buy Robitussin DM for him. Well, we've been giving him both, and nothing is calming the cough. Can anyone give any other recommendations for something you've used to calm the cough, in addition to the antibiotics and cough syrup? Thanks so much!

Mu puppy was 5 months old when he got kennel cough from spending 2 weeks at a training facility. The meds took a day or so to kick in, but he was ok after that. You should see an improvement by tomorrow. Keep us posted! Poor lil baby!! I slept on the sofa with my puppy when he had it, I was crushed and so po-ed at the training place, but thats a whole other story....

Try to hang in there, it's gonna take awhile but your pup's cough will clear up. It's just going to take a couple of doses.
Our Shelby had kennel cough with the on-set of pneumonia, she was on very strong antibiotics along with Robitussin. It took about two to three full days of taking the meds before she stopped coughing as much.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I hate it, I just feel so helpless for him, hacking away. It is stressful enough with a new doggie in the house, and the coughing is just making it 10x harder!!!! Thanks again and when DH gets home I will ask him to put some pics on here, because I am not technologically advanced enough for that!!! Thanks again everyone!

Annie was a shelter dog and she had kennel cough when we got her. It took several weeks to go away. Hang in there!

Re: Kennel Cough...please help!
Thanks guys... you are the best! He seemed a little better today, so that's definately good! Now the next drama would be that he is absolutely dead set on catching the cat. I asked the lady and she said, "Oh, he's timid, he'll just bark at your cat." At this point I'm assuming that by bark she clearly meant try to eat. We bought baby gates to keep Uno in a confined space and the cat in a bigger area, so hopefully once the excitement of seeing the cat dies down, things will settle down!
