Keeping kids entertained?

So I am having my sons christening on July 10th at the Irish Coffee pub and so far the kiddie head count is at 8 most likely 9. Do you think I need some sort of enteratinment for them? What did you do to keep kids busy without dropping $$$? TIA!Chat Icon

Coloring, books, stickers, I'd have some stuff for them to do but I think they can entertain themselves too. Play with each other. How old will they be?

They run from 1-10. Mostly in the 2-6 range.

Keeping kids entertained?

I would skip entertainment personally. I like the idea about coloring books.

Head to dollar tree and five below and buy a bunch of stuff. We just went to a first birthday without entertainment and the hosts just bought a bunch of junkie toys and the kiddies had a ball. Kids are pretty innovative, they'll figure it out.

Keeping kids entertained?

I wouldn't do entertainment. For dd1s 1st birthday I had an empt table set up with coloring books, stickers, Lego kits. All from the $1 store or $1 bins at Michaels. Mostly the kids just played with each other.

I hired Adrenaline Entertainment for my DD's christening, they kept the kids entertained, I had a clown come and she did face painting, balloons, and dances/games. It was $150 for the hour. I'm using them again for my DD's 1st bday this weekend except its $50 more as I am having a character appearance.

Re: Keeping kids entertained?

Call me crazy (and old, lolol) but when we were kids there was NO such thing as entertainment at ANY party or event we attended. We kept ourselves busy, we played with other kids that were there and that was it. I don't recall a single time in my life where I had my face painted, a character greeting, a DJ, etc.

*Personally*, while these things can be nice for the kids, I find them to be so expensive so I have skipped entertainment at parties I've thrown. Like others said, I set up an empty table with coloring books, crayons, bubbles, little fun toys, etc. and the kids have always had a blast. It doesn't take much to keep kids entertained. Chat Icon

We had my dd's christening yesterday and this was our situation. I bought coloring books, crayons, and stickers. The kids played with that and entertained each other as well.

Re: Keeping kids entertained?

We just did this for DD's 1st bday. I had a "goody bag" that each child got at the beginning of the party instead of the end. It had a coloring book and crayons, a set of stickers, and a mask. Maybe something else, too. Then I threw foam stickers on the tables for them to decorate their masks. The room was a mess, but it was a big hit. Every child was entertained from ages 1 to 5.

Keeping kids entertained?

I would not do entertainment. Its not a kids party so IMO its not expected. Parents can entertain their kids.

This is what I would do. Go to Michaels or Target and pick up some stuff from the dollar bins- they had great little knick knacks for kids!

Ditto! I used them for my Twins' christening and their first Birthday and it was so worth the money (which I thought for what she did was a great price). The kids at our parties ranged from 1-9 and they ALL loved the face painting, balloons and dances/games!

My cousin had a party and the mini kids table was covered with paper and taped down. With canisters of markers or crayons.

I had 10 kids, too, 7 and under. Adrenaline was the best... I used them 3x now. I totally customized what I wanted and I even had an elmo come to play and dance with the kids. Balloon animals, face painting, etc. Seriously with the Elmo it was $200
They're prompt, thorough and so so nice
