Karo syrup in bottles? - UPDATED

OK, so DS has not pooped since Thursday and I called the ped office this morning and was told to put a tsp of dark Karo syrup in one of his bottles.

Apparently it is supposed to be a natural laxitive.

I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this or done if before. Thanks!

***UPDATE***

Well, we tried the Karo syrup trick. Put 1 tsp in his bottle this morning. 4 hours later...

HE POOPED!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have no idea if the Karo syrup did it or if he was just ready being that he hadn't pooped since Thursday, but I'll tell you this..

If anyone ever asks me about using Karo syrup to help, I will be an advocate!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've heard of it. My grandmother told me to do that instead of giving the girls juice for constipation. She used to give it to my mom and aunts/uncles.

I've heard of it but never did it. DS has been constipated a few times and I alway just stuck the suppository in his butt. Or you can put some vaseline on a thermometer and stick it up there. It may hep loosen him up. I dont know if I would use the Karo syrup.

Karo syrup works great! We used to put it in one bottle every day and eventually he didn't need it anymore. Very similar to sugar in the water, same effect.

Re: Karo syrup in bottles?

Sorry to hijack but DS has been having this problem since starting cereals :( We have been trying to give him prune juice ( i say trying b/c he will NOT drink it) but, so far not working...Is this something the ped told you to use daily going forward or just a one time thing when there is a prob?

THis is the longest DS has ever gone without pooping. The ped wanted me to put Karo syrup in 1 bottle today, try the thermometer trick, and if he still has not gone by tomorrow morning, give him another bottle with Karo syrup in it tomorrow am. Then if he still has not gone, she wanted me to call back. For us, this is a first time thing.

It totally does. I gave it to DS everyday for almost a month to regulate him when he was an infant. Only the dark one and also brown sugar and water work too.
