Maybe let his body cool before you express how happy you are.

This gives Obama a chance to appoint someone who is more liberal- Scalia was very conservative. It's going to be interesting because of the election, and whether or not Republicans will hold the process up until after there is a new President. Some have already pointed out that it is not in Republican's best interest to let it drag out- should a Democrat win, he/she could actually potentially appoint Obama- an idea that has been floated before. He was a Constitutional law professor so he does have, on paper at least, the qualifications.

Justice Scalia has passed away.
From what I heard on the news the court will sit with 8 judges until after the election and the next president will select the next judge. I cannot for the life of me imagine if Trump became president what would happen. That scares the crap out of me. (Not to mention several other candidates). In my own opinion., one of the most important things a president does is nominate out Supreme Court judges

Re: Justice Scalia has passed away.
For the past 70 or so years Supreme Court justices have been nominated and confirmed within two to three months of either the passing or stepping down of a former justice. Obama is still president for 340 days. The fact that Republicans would hijack our judicial system to allow a split of lower courts stand would be a horrible precedent. And what would happen if a Democrat were elected they would make the court wait five years?

Justice Scalia has passed away.
I don't think a SC justice has been nominated and confirmed in an election year in like, 100 years? I have to check my facts and numbers again, but if Obama does find someone, and we're lucky enough to have the Senate confirm them, it will be historic. Getting congress to agree on anything would be historic
It's the first time everrrrrrrr I've wished I had school on Monday. I teach Government

Yeah, that's 100% wrong. It happened most recently with Justice Kennedy, in 1987. http://www.scotusblog.com/2016/02/supreme-court-vacancies-in-presidential-election-years/

Re: Justice Scalia has passed away.
Was 1987 an election year?
Edit: I see it was confirmed in 1988.

He spent two days at my job a few years ago. He was a very nice man and I am saddened to hear he passed away. I'm sure his wife, 9 children and 36 grandchildren are saddened also.

If the situation were reversed, I believe the Democrats would try to drag out the nomination of the next Supreme Court Justice.
