Just spent the last 4 1/2 hours in L&D...
Woke up this AM with the most ridiculous headache... called the Dr since I've never had one all pregnancy and didn't know what to do... so, the nurse says, "take 2 tylenol extra strength, and call me if the headache doesn't go away"... fast forward 2 hrs, it didn't go away. I call back the Dr. He says go to the hospital. Just to check the BP and the baby. OK! I go. We grab the hospital, just in case they decide to admit me and get an induction started a day earlier (I'm three days overdue at this point)...
First, L&D is a mad house... I think EVERYONE on LI is having their child today at NSUH-Manhasset. So, we wait to be seen... no big deal... except for the fact that skull feels like it's been opened with a JACK HAMMER! But I digress, I have urine culture done, blood drawn, BP taken over and over and over... Watch the baby's HB... for 4 1/2 hrs - that was relaxing (without relieving the headache tho). Results of everything come back... NOTHING! Everything is "perfect", no protein in urine, no toxemia, no pre-eclampsia, etc.
The resident and my OB both agree that it is a hormone related migraine and that the only thing that will help relieve it is having the baby... Well, DUUUUH!  OR! having a cup of coffee. (this is where I want to tell the resident to eff-off! But I don't, 'cuuuuz that's not nice!)
One would think that at 40wks 3days, I would have been induced or something... but NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Why!?
The resident claims that she suggested I be induced to my OB and he says, "No, I'll see her tomorrow at her check-up". While I looooove my Dr, I am more than frustrated right now. Hopefully tomorrow, I will have some progress and that he'll be able to stir things up in there and help me get a move on things.
I'm sorry for the long rant... I'm just so frustrated that I could (and probably will) cry - and that'll just bring back the migraine - GREAT!!!

And just a note about L&D/maternity ward in Manhasset. It's true the ENTIRE world is giving birth at NSUH in the last 2 days. we went on the hospital tour on tues night and the nursery had 10 babies, all 12 labor rooms were full AND the maternity ward had a ton of babies screaming from most of the rooms. It was insane!

Having had a headache from week 25-39 when PG with DS I really know the pain you are in. A glass of diet coke or coffee might help. Good luck.

Awwwww...I'm so sorry! Hope you are feeling better now! And, hope you get to meet your little one soon
You are really scaring me about NSUH since I will be delivering there in the next few days like it or not. I guess my dreams for a private room are not happening

I wouldn't worry about the private room issue... I asked the nurses about that yesterday and according to them, since you have to pay for a private room, there are plenty of those to go around... Plus, you're not going to be sharing a room with anyone during your labor or delivery.
