just got my doppler need help- update
I heard and saw the baby a few days ago at 12 w. The sonolone b 3 htz just came and I don't hear anything. I put it right where the docs do for the external. Is it just bc I hace a lot of fat there?? The docs can hear it easily. Any thoughts? Update- I hate this thing! Either there is no more hb or I am very stupid cause I can't find it. Tried everything. Lots of gel. High volume. On pubic bone area. Moved it slowly. Pressed in. I don't get it! Dr heard it on saturday so I just don't know what to think

I ordered the same one and it came today too!!! Weird coincidence. I'm a couple weeks behind ya but I found the beat for a sec and then I lost it. I assume it was the beat bc it was the only time I found something in the 150 range. I kept getting all diff numbers in diff places. Did that happen to you?
It seems like baby moves around so hb prob isn't in the same place. Keep searching! I'm gonna try it again tonight.

yeah the doppler will only calm you down if you are willing to accept when you sometimes cant find the heartbeat, especially early on. then you just try again a little later in another spot. it will not help if you are the type that will freak out if you dont find it, then it will just make things worse. especially in the beginning.

I am guessing you have to check much lower at 12 weeks. Almost near the pubic bone. The doppler they use at the doctor is much stronger and they don't have to go as low to detect the heartbeat. Just take your time and do it in a quiet room so you can pick up on it.

Its possible that baby has moved. In the beginning it took me a while to find the heartbeat and sometimes it was at different spots. You may have to search for a while and move the doppler around a little at a time. Dont stress it though...just because you cant find it doesnt mean its not there

Sometimes it helps to turn the volume all the way up because it can be distant depending on where the baby is. Also check very low like by your pubic bone. Try to relax, I'm sure you will find it soon

ITA. I always have to turn the volume up all the way and even wear headphones or else I'd miss it. Good point!

I think it is hard to find, especially as early as 12 weeks, when you are doing it at home. Keep moving it around, I am sure you will find it!

Girl, you need to put the doopler away. You're going to cause yourself sooo much stress! I actually started using mine at 12 weeks too and it took me FOREVER to find. If Dr. found the HB a couple of days ago I wouldnt worry. Please, dont be sad...many women have trouble finding the HB with the doppler.

In all seriousness, TRY not to go too crazy with that thing. 99% of the time, I'm sure it causes people to worry for no reason!
I know.. easy for me to say... I have spoken on here about wanting to order my own sono to keep in my house! 
eta: if it will make you feel better, I'm sure you have like 10 more sticks you could pee on

That thing is only going to make you more paranoid. Leave it to the doctors to find the heartbeat. I cant wait to start feeling consistent movement so i know everything will be ok but i could not use that. If i couldn't find the heartbeat i would be panicking and running to the doctor to find it.
But anyway i hope you either find it or give up but please dont be worrying.

This is why I think the dopplers should nto be used at home. When you are still early on even the Drs might have difficulty findign the HB right away.

ITA with this.
Since you are so early on at this point (to me) all that doppler is doing is bringing you unnecessary stress. Try to not touch it for a couple of days and let that baby grow a bit more. In a couple of weeks you will start to feel flutters, then movements then kicks and your baby will let you know that he/she is doing a-ok.

I completely agree with this.
There were times at around 12 weeks where I couldn't find the hb for days, but all ended up being well with the baby.
Don't panic! Even my dr told me that it was very possible they wouldn't hear the hb even at 13-14 weeks on their doppler.

I thought the earliest it could detect a HB was at 15 weeks? At least the one I was looking at said that. Maybe it's just to early?

my doctor didn't start using one with me until I was about 16-17 weeks or so. I know it is so hard at this stage when your baby is too small to feel any movement, I went through the same thing and as a courtesy my OB did an extra sonogram here and there just to ease my fears because he knew how nervous I was all the time. But hang in there, soon you will feel all of those little kicks. I am 32 weeks and sometimes I still try to get  to move if I haven't felt him in a while. I know easier said than done, but try to relax and trust that your baby is ok
