Just curious...when did you DC start recognizing letters and numbers

Out of context...like you showed them a 2 and they said "2", not just memorizing saying 1,2, 3, etc.

Re: Just curious...when did you DC start recognizing letters and numbers

DS has been able to recognize the letters in his name for a few months (since about 21 months). I haven't spent much time on any other letters. He will pull out the correct letters, but cannot put them in order to spell his name yet.

He isn't talking yet so he doesn't name them, but if I ask him "where is the "w" for Wilson he'll pick up the right letter.

Jack started to recognize letters and numbers at 2.5

Now at 3.5 he has really had it perfected for a long time.

Re: Just curious...when did you DC start recognizing letters and numbers

My DD has been able to recognize all the letters of the alphabet since around 20 months.............thanks to the Leap Frog Letter Factory DVD. She also knows all of the letter sounds as well. She's 2 now and she can count to 10 and she's starting to recognize the numbers when she sees them. She's better with some numbers than others...........she can always point out a "5" (her favorite number for some reason) and usually the number 2 and 4. We're working on the numbers now so hopefully she will get better with them. Chat Icon

He's known his letters since about 2 or 2 1/2....

We have the Leapster fridge magnet thing and the Scribble and Write...

He loved to play with them so he picked up his letters really quick...

Didnt know the alphabet or how to count until 3...but knew all his letters and numbers. Go figure...

Re: Just curious...when did you DC start recognizing letters and numbers

DD is 21 months and just started. She handed me one of her magnetic letters the other day and said "B" and it was the B. I thought it was a fluke but she did it with a couple of other letters as well

Honestly, I have to credit day care also...I've worked on some things but
his morning he recognized out of context numbers 1 to 7 and he just turned 21 months. He has a few letters down also from our constant repitition of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Chat Icon

But really he comes home saying numbers, shapes, colors, from school. He is in a class with kids a year older than him and while he is really verbal (speaks in 3 to 4 word phrases clearly) I didn't know if it would work out, but he is soaking everything up.

Makes me feel a million times better about me working!

And this morning he also said "I love mama" all by himself so its been a proud mommy day for me...needed to share!

We bought the Leapfrog Fridge Phonics when DS was about 21 months old. He loves it. He could recognize all of the letters by 22 months. He knows some of the numbers, but I haven't really worked on them with him.

DD is 20 months old and has a letter board and for the past 2 nights, she picks up the M and says "mmmmmm"....I don't think it's a coincidence....but she doesn't seem to know any of the other letters yet
